Hi,

I have a problem of my homepage being set to one search website,
"http://www.vroomsearch.com/" (even after resetting it to default homepage)
and there are a few unwanted bookmarks that would just reappear even after
deleting them several times.

Tried to scan my systems and found several files of "adware threat" in
nature and deleting them failed.

Need help, have been trying to solve this for a few days now such as
downloading and running a few programs such as "cwshredder", "spybot",
"easycleaner". Also, tried to manipulate the registry files but am not too
sure how.

Did that scan and here's the logfile.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Sharul, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. I understand you used some steps before, I would appreciate it if you would please complete all of the steps below in the order they are posted. Thanks.

First this link will describe one item that appears as an R3 in your log. It identifies it a being installed by CoolWebSearch. I would like you to run CoolWebShredder to make sure this nasty item is removed if it is there. Here is the link to the item:
http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/Tubby.html

Please go to the following link and follow the directions to download and run CWShredder. Make sure you update before running the tool and choose "FIX"…not scan. While all of the information is good, you will start at: Step 1: Download CWShredder.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial47.html

I may have to use Safe Mode to do this, but will try once in the Regular Mode, please open Task Manager and look under the Processes Tab. End process on anything that looks like this:
Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker

Follow the instructions in this link to enable hidden files:
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

Scan then with HijackThis and check each of these line items:

-ILookup / GlobalWebSearch

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows then click on "Fix Checked":

RIGHT click on Start then click on Explore. Look for and delete these items if they are there, be careful not to miss them.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\wins32t.dll >>> only what is red

C:\WINDOWS\system32\gwss.dll >>> only what is red

C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker >>> folder

Run Cleanmgr: Start, Run type "cleanmgr" without the quotes then ok. Remove anything windows locates. Empty the recycle bin and restart the computer. Post a new log along with your feedback, any information you think we should have. Please view the following two links to properly place that log.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. Really appreciate it. Actually I had reformatted the PC and the system is running fine now. Thanks again anyway.
Hi Sharul, That is not problem, at least I did have your solution and you got a good look at some of the stuff that can get on a computer, and those infections were fairly mild. I would like to share with you the information I give to anyone who's computer is clean at the end of our process. Perhaps something in there will keep you from future infections.

Thanks to Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler for this information:
