Here's my Hijack This log. I am always getting pop-up ads; I've trakced them down to an .exe file called buddy.exe, but I can't seem to permanently delete it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First, try the following.
Close all other programs, including your web browser(s).
Make sure you do the above or this fix will NOT work.

Run HijackThis and checkmark the following lines:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://69.50.184.51/find4u/sp.htm
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,SearchURL = http://69.50.184.51/find4u/sp.htm

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
Click "fix checked"

Reboot your computer, run Internet Explorer, then scan with HijackThis and see if the find4u lines are back. If not then just post a fresh HijackThis log.

If the lines are back then also do the following:

Download, unzip and run VX2Finder9x(126).exe.
Click the Find VX2 button when it finishes, click the make log button.
Post the VX2Finder and a fresh HijackThis log here please.

If you get a message that msvbm60.dll is missing, go here and download the VB6 runtime update and install it according to the instructions on the page. You will need to reboot after install.
I think my probem has been solved; the "find4u" lines are gone, and after several reboots to make sure, I no longer see the "buddy.exe" culprit in my Windows folder. This fix was accomplished without the need to run the VX2Finder9x(126).exe file. Many thanks for solving what was a very annoying problem; my donation to TomCoyote is on its way! Here's my logfile:

Good job reel959, your log is free from malware. :)

Many of the programs that peoples computers become infected with use vulnerabilities that are discovered in the Windows Operating System. Microsoft issues patches to fix these problems as they are discovered so one of the most important keys to keeping your computer clean is visiting Windows Update on a regular basis.

I recommend you read How did I get infected in the first place and follow Tony's advice. He will tell you about some ways to make your computer more secure and link to some excellent free tools to help with that.
