Hi, I looked over the log and I'm not sure what's safe to delete and what's not. Could someone please help? I ran Ad-Aware but I still have ads popping up whenever I restart the computer. Thanks! :)

Greetings sawjai, and welcome to TomCoyote!

I'm 'KotaGuy and I'm going to be helping you with your HijackThis log.

Please print this out for reference.

OK, first, make sure no files are hidden. To do this, right click on "My Computer" and choose "Explorer". Next, click on the Tools Menu Item and choose Folder Options. Once in the Folder Options, click on the View Tab. Then make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. And that both "Hide extension for known file types" and "Hide protected system files" options are unchecked. Click the "Apply to all folders" button, click "OK".

Go to your Control Panel. Click Add/Remove Programs. Uninstall any of the following if found:

CashBack
NaviSearch
180Solutions
VVSN

With all other windows and browsers closed, Start HijackThis, Scan, and put a check beside the following:

These next entries are optional and if fixed will reinstall once you visit the website again:

Now, for the 09 lines in your log, I need you to do this, open notepad, and copy and paste the contents of the quote box below into a new text file.

Save it as file name: "fixme.reg" (not including the quotes). Save as file type: *All files* and save it on your Desktop.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{FB74C951-ACA1-4e33-A94C-A9261EB2CCB7}]

Then, locate fixme.reg on your desktop and double-click it.
You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?".
Answer 'Yes' and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

Next, boot your computer into Safe Mode, do this by tapping the F8 button when rebooting your computer. This will bring up an Advanced Options menu, choose Safe Mode.

Once booted into Safe Mode, search for and delete the following folders:

C:\Program Files\CashBack
C:\Program Files\NaviSearch
C:\Program Files\180Solutions
C:\Program Files\VVSN

Reboot your computer back into normal windows, and with only HijackThis open, Scan and post the new log.

Thanks!

Hello sawjai! Thanks for posting the new log. It is CLEAN!

Nice Work!

I also noticed the addition of SpywareGuard in your log, very good choice!

Some suggestions if I may…

Now would be a good time to clean out your temp files. To do this Go to Start>Run and type in cleanmgr and hit Enter. After it has scanned put a check in these three boxes : Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin. Press OK.

You may wish to reset your Restore Points as well. To do this, right click on My Computer. Click on the System Restore tab. Place a check in the box beside Turn of System Restore on all drives. Reboot. Once back into Windows, right click on My Computer, turn System Restore back on by unchecking the box beside Turn off System Restore on all drives in the System Restore tab.

I don't see SP 2 installed in your log. You should update Windows and it's components. Do this by clicking the Tools menu header in Internet Explorer and clicking Windows Update from the drop down menu.

Its good to see you are using eMule, as far as Peer2Peer programs go, it is clean. But remember to ALWAYS be careful of the files you download from any Peer2Peer source. You never know what other people are sharing out. If you must use Peer2Peer, remember to keep your Virus definitions up to date, as well with all your other malware/spyware programs as well. And scan frequently with all!

If you haven't installed SpywareBlaster to go alongside SpywareGuard, please do so, you may download it from here: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html

Also, if you haven't yet, please download and install the latest versions of Ad-Aware from here: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

And Spybot Search & Destroy from here: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html

Please visit this site: http://www.cjwd.demon.co.uk/spybot-adaware.html for instructions on how to configure it for best detection.

I also recommend IE-Spyad from here: https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm#IESPYAD

Another thing I noticed is the lack of a firewall. You might want took into either ZoneAlarm(there is a free version) from here: http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp or Kerio Personal Firewall from here: http://www.kerio.com/kpf_home.html

You also may want to visit these websites. They will give you a little bit of insight as to how this happens and ways to protect your computer to minimize reinfection
