Hi,

I would really appreciate your assistance. I have McAffee and Adaware installed on my pc, but I keep getting hit with bugs. Mainly the PeopleOnPage thing, which from my research installs all kinds of other nasty little things on to your computer.

I have turned off the auto restore on XP and have run McAffee and Adaware from safe mode, with no luck. It just keeps respawning, every time I open a browser window.

I hope that I am doing this the right way. Attached is my log. You would really be my hero if you could help me. Thanks in advance!

Hello againTroyBoy777,

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad:

(1).
Before Dealing with an adware/spyware problem.,s with hijackthis make sure you have already run Ad-aware SE, Spybot Search & Destroy (with updated database) as these programs will clean what baddies they find out FIRST.
(All links to programs are listed in my Signature.)

(2).
Scan your system, these free on-line scanners (note: some spyware have been known to disable PC based AV scanners): ("Do Both, No Harm")
http://housecall.trendmicro.com or
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/co…n_principal.htm

(3).
Please go here, for TROJANHUNTER, download and run.
http://www.tomcoyote.org/potw.php?act=show

Always remember to allow the Program to "Fix", RE-BOOT, after each Scan.

(4).
Once done Re-Boot in Normal Mode and post a new HijackThis log file to confirm what was removed and if it's clean or not.
Don't try to FIX anything yourself. Our "TC" experts will advise..!!

Marty ;)
Okay, I have gone through the steps that you mentioned. Since I am still getting pop-up's, I am going to assume that we have some work ahead of us.

;)

Below is my new log. Thank you again for all of your help:

Hello again, "TroyBoy777"

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. DO NOT have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

I see you are running both “mcafee, and Norton”(I suggest you use only one, as they can conflict with one another.)

You have one (or more) of these programs running on your machine and that is good.

Winpatrol
Spywareguard
Spybot s&d (Teatimer option)

But while we do the next part of the fix for your problems it(they) will complain and give you the option of cancelling the changes we are doing with hijackthis.

When they do, please allow those changes to be made, or the problem lines will not be removed from your hijackthis log.

(1).
Make sure to close any open browsers.
Run a scan with hijackthis and put a check beside these lines and choose FIX.
(Please be careful not to miss any)

(2).
*Restart the computer. Boot in "safe" mode FIRST.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.

(3).
Please go to your Add/Remove Programs panel- Look for this program and uninstall it if present

CxtPls

(4).
Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

(5).
Then while still in safe mode find and delete these folders and/or files:
C:\Program Files\CxtPls\CxtPls.exe <
C:\WINDOWS\System32\SHVRTF.EXE<
C:\WINDOWS\System32\csrncode.exe<
C:\WINDOWS\System32\rwitml.exe<

(6).
Remove contents of Temporary folders.
Go Here to see how: http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?showtopic=13488

(7).
Reboot in regular mode when finished troubleshooting
Please run and repost a new HJT log in your reply to this post.

We will need to check your LOG again…Marty
Marty <_<
So far, no sign of a pop-up. Okay, I am really starting to get optomistic here, Marty.

:)

The cxtpls thing didn't show up on the hjt scan or in add/remove programs but found it just fine doing step 5.

I tried the link twice on step 6, but it kept saying error. I went ahead and ran Disk Cleanup and made sure the "temp files" box was checked.

Attached is my log after the restart, as directed in step 7. (with a hopeful smile and his fingers crossed)

Hello again “troyboy777”,
Your HJT LOG looks CLEAN!
Just do a couple more things.

(1).
This process will clean out your Temp files and your Temporary Internet Files. Please do both steps:

Step 1:Delete Temp Files
To clean out your temp files, click on Start and then run, and type %temp% and press the ok button.

This should open up the temp directory that your machine uses. Please delete all files that are found there. If you get an error when deleting a file, skip that file and delete all the others. If you had trouble deleting a file, reboot into Safe Mode and follow this step again. You should now be able to delete all the files.

Step 2: Delete Temporary Internet Files
Now I want you to open up Internet Explorer, and click on the Tools menu and then Internet Options. At the General tab, which should be the first tab you are currently on, click on the Delete Files button and put a checkmark in Delete offline content. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes. When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

(2).
Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the Performance tab, click File System, or press ALT+F.
3. On the Troubleshooting tab, put a check mark in the 'Turn Off System Restore' check box.
4. Click OK twice, and then click Yes when you are prompted to restart the computer.
5. Repeat steps 1 - 3, this time clearing the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore'

(3).
Now that your Clean.
