I was gonna edit the above post, but the modify option is not there anymore.
This is the Norton prompt I get when I restart now. I get at least two prompts, the second one usually has at least one extra module and a different remote address. This is all the info from the latest restart. I never used to get prompts like this when booting up. If I choose to block these, I cannot access the internet.

Curious me just did a new HJT scan, and a few of our friends are back. My homepage has not been hijacked, but I think these reappearances might explain my Norton/restart oddness. Unfortunately, the ball is back in your court.
Sigh.

I cannot run any of the programs. It says my ActiveX does not allow them to run. When I go to Internet Options and lower my settings, they still will not run. Is there any way else I can change these settings and have them stick?
Let's get rid of that parasite first. Could you find, zip and send:

C:\WINDOWS\inetxxx\services.exe

to my email address so that I can examine it. Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. In the 'Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste the following, clicking the red 'Delete File' button after pasting:

C:\WINDOWS\inetxxx\services.exe

Click 'Exit' when done.

Make sure that you have no other browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

F3 - REG:win.ini: run=C:\WINDOWS\inetxxx\services.exe
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5321E378-FFAD-4999-8C62-03CA8155F0B3} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xp_system] C:\WINDOWS\inetxxx\services.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [xp_system] C:\WINDOWS\inetxxx\services.exe

Reboot and rescan with HJT - post a new log for a final check over.
Looks good again! I am going to try to run the other programs and update my Microsoft Service now. I'll post back to let you know how it turns out this time.
Let me know what you find in the file I sent you, though I messed up on that.

I'm about ready to throw in the towel.
I just was graced by the Blue Screen of Death, which was followed by the Black Screen of Death that I've never heard of or seen before. It read: "Operating System Not Found."
Needless to say I nearly cried and threw the laptop out the window all at the same time.
I broke out my recovery discs, and inserted the first one. It said that if I wanted to save data, I'd have to backup my files. So on the third time before I decided to click the final "next," I figured I had nothing else to lose and that maybe I could call SONY and see if they could help. To my surprise, when I took the disc out and restarted my computer…everything was there.
I think it's safe to say I am going to save the few pictures and songs I want to disc, and be prepared for the worst.
I really have no idea what's wrong or why I cannot add new software. I have the ActiveX settings lower than low.
Prior to the Death screens, I was able to update at Microsoft. I had to add them to my safe list. I don't think that really had anything to do with it though it may look like it.
I dunno, Daemon. You've been a great help, but right now I'm not seeing a light at the end of this Microsoft tunnel. :(

Here's my HJT log since the death screens.

OK, if it's any consolation, the malware has gone from your system. Delete the entire C:\WINDOWS\inetxxx\ folder.

Is it stable now? Do you just experience the crashes when trying to apply the MS updates or does the installation of any program cause it?

Do you get any error messages?
It seems to be stable, though slower than normal. Much slower. I've since been able to download the MS updates I need. I cannot change settings to my Norton. When I try to change the settings on my firewall, a MS pop up that says "Windows installer" opens for a few seconds, then closes, taking away my Norton Internet Securities with it. Norton Anti-Virus stays open unharmed. I still cannot download any of the other virus protection that you posted for me a few posts ago. No error messages. AAW SE never launched for me. I was still getting the error message that it had to close. I removed AAW SE for now. I cannot figure out the problems with all of the ActiveX errors for all the software I've been trying to download. It's gotta be something with ActiveX and my firewall? Should I uninstall Norton and then reinstall it? Thank you! :)
I notice that you are still on SP1 - your updates haven't been working for some reason. Uninstall Norton for now, keep AVG as antivirus. See if the problems persist. Let me know.
335. Not my area code, but rather the number of infected files found with Panda. I was finally able to run this GREAT program and it disinfected ALL 335 files!
Mhtredir.gen Trojan
Clicker.Q Trojan (s.exe file)
EZones.A Trojan (zona02.exe file)
Krepper.A Trojan
ByteVerify Virus
Trojan Horse Trojan
StartPage.JU Trojan

I have no idea what's up with MS SP2. I cannot install it. My last updates were in April, I believe, so I was wrong in thinking I was up-to-date. I have not had a chance to uninstall Norton as of yet, but I will. Our power was out for several hours tonight and I haven't been on long. I think Panda has made a believer out of me!

Stay tuned!…

AAhhhhh…as soon as I left this site and clicked home, a new homepage. Surprise!
It looks like services.exe is still there, though I can't seem to zip it to send to you. I'll give it another go and see what I can do.

Note:Homepage is now:

(without the spaces)
I did a KillBox on services.exe. Also, prior to that, I was able to install Java from Sun. Yay! I have Java again! This is the error message I had on my restart: "jucheck.exe - Unable to locate component. This application has failed to start because OLEPRO32.DLL was not found. Re-installing mab fix this problem." I also received two pop-ups stating that C drive windows services.exe could not be found. hehehe….likely story. Same pop-ups as the last time. Is it gone for good? I don't know. I don't…know… Oh yes, we will beat this thing…whatever it is…
You delete the whole C:\WINDOWS\inetxxx\ but it came back? If you find that services.exe again please send it.

Are you able to run the online scans I pointed to here:

http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?show…ndpost&p=100525

Click here to download ServiceFilter, a little script by rand1038 that reveals potential unauthorised running services in your system. Download, unzip and double-click ServiceFilter.vbs (you may need to enable your antivirus program to run the file). This script will create a text file named Post_This.txt in the same folder as the script itself has been saved - copy and paste the contents of Post_This.txt in your next reply here.
"WScript.exe - Unable To Locate Component This application has failed to start because ScrRun.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." The above is the error I get when trying to run ServiceFilter. I believe services.exe is gone for good now. My computer is running faster - for now - and there has been no sign of it. The folders I zipped to you are still in my C:\…please let me know when you can if I should remove the services & s folders. I zipped and sent servies.exe and s.exe to you earlier. The only scan I was able to execute from the ones you pointed to was Panda.
I was able to install the microsoft file. On restart: "jucheck.exe - Unable to locate component. This application has failed to start because OLEPRO32.DLL was not found. Re-installing mab fix this problem" …along with the prompt that services.exe is missing. It really lokks like it is missing this time. As for ServicesFilter, I get the first prompt for it, then it goes away completely.
