I've deleted my R0-R3's several times, and they come back. O2 no name does the same thing. both HKCU xp_system services.exe come back every time. 020.dll comes back every time, too! I have Norton, Ad-aware 6, and Adware Filter…none of which work…obviously. :D

My homepage is normally yahoo, but i continue to get the win.eto.com and t.swapx.cc pages. i can only access yahoo after i get to msn.

I've been at this all day and I am going nuts. Please help.

Ad Aware SE appears to not be working. I downloaded it and it will not open. I've been reading threads on here and over at Gladiator and am trying to figure out wtf happened to my PC. I continue to have the same files appear that I just removed that I mentioned in the original post. I used Spybot S&D earlier as well with no luck…not to mention that Norton seems to be defensless against this type of problem. I'm in the process of running McAfee Stinger…maybe that will help. That's the latest at my end. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
Make sure you have the latest update of AAW SE. Then instead of running a full scan click custom scan and uncheck the 'Scan active processes' box. Let me know how you get on and post a new HJT log.
I cannot run AAW SE. Every time I try I get an error saying: "Ad-Aware.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program to make sure I didn't get a bad version, but even that doesn't work. My HJT list remains the same… Computer is slower than slow. Help. Thanks.
OK - back to the old way. We don't normally recommend running two antivirus programs together. The program I am going to tell you to install has been successful removing this particular variant in the past.

Could you disable Norton for now and go here to download the free version of Grisoft's AVG AntiVirus program.

Install the program, check for updates and scan your system allowing it to remove whatever it finds.

Click here to download Pocket Killbox by Option^Explicit. Extract it from the zip file - we will use it later.

Post a new HJT log and I will give you further instructions.
I ran AVG and it deleted 7 of 11 viruses. I downloaded KillBox and am ready for your next set of instructions. Thanks for taking your time to help me out. The C Drive logs do not show up when I view HJT, but only when I post it here. How woul I go about removing files if I need to? Winlogon and services.exe look familiar in the sense that they are not good.
dayam! I realized I ran AVG with Norton still running. I'll do it again, but here's what we got for now…and thank you!

Here my latest HJT log:

C:\Windows\System32\ft23nsx66uv64z.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll

It will prompt you to reboot, press the NO button again and repeat for the following:

C:\WINDOWS\inetxxx\services.exe

When it prompts you to reboot this time, press the YES button.

Create a new folder called C:\HijackThis, move the HijackThis.exe file into the new folder and run it from there. This is necessary to ensure you have backups should anything go wrong. Make sure that you have no browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://win-eto.com/hp.htm?id=9

Reboot again and post a new log.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.

Do you know what this is: C:\WINDOWS\d330.exe
Daemon,
Thanks so much for your help! I will donate shortly when I feel it is safe.
Here is my latest log. I "fixed" R0, BHO no name, and 020. They seem to come back regardless. I also reset my internet options which still had the win-eto.com site as the homepage, luckily msn stayed for now.
I also have no idea what the C:\WINDOWS\d330.exe is. IT kept popping up last night but Norton suggested to block so I went with that. It looks like it is gone now,
but the winlogon is still there.

I'll see ya in a few. Thanks again!

Oh…and this:
C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe
I have iTunes and want an iPod, but don't have an iPod yet.
I also don't know what YahooPager is.
I still cannot run AAW SE, still get the error message.
Homepage is now about:blank…
edit that again…homepage back to the t.swap.x.cc

ThankYouVeryMuch B)
One more update:
I deleted SpyAssassin. I've read up as much as I could and it didn't work anyway. AND they are trying to profit from the Ad Aware name.
I did a new HJT scan…and no more 020!!!
It's looking a lot better. This is the most up-to-date HJT scan:

I'm off to lunch! :)
Okay, so I was actually off to shower, NOW I'm off to lunch. It's running faster for sure. I'm still a little worried that the hijacked homepage will come back. It's a shame that Norton can't catch this stuff. Is the AVG full version better than Norton? Does it have a live update? I'd switch in a heart beat. I really am taking off for a few hours, but I'll post when I get back. If everything is cool, then I'll post and you can close this case. Take note, kiddies. Spy Assassin = Bad. I will gladly add a link for Tom Coyote on my site suedecrush dot com Be back in a few. Thanks again Daemon, you ROCK!
I prefer AVG to Norton - doesn't wolf up your resources the same way. The full version does have a scheduler for updating - can set it to one or more times a day.

Your pests aren't going to come back but you really need to update Windows. Click here to make sure that you have the latest Critical Update patches for Windows. It's very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks.

Also, to help keep you clean follow the recommendations in Tony's article here:

So how did I get infected in the first place?

Let me know if it's still running OK later and I'll close the topic.

ps. could you find, zip and send C:\WINDOWS\d330.exe to this e-mail address including a link to this thread in the body of the email.
Two minor problems. Maybe. 1. I still cannot open AAW SE…I still get the error message and that it must close. Is anyone else having a problem downloading this? I had AAW6 prior to this and uninstalled it when I installed AAW SE. I've even tried downloading from different sources, but no luck. 2. In my address bar, when I went to type in www.tomcoyote…, at the first "w" I typed, I got a ton of websites that start with "w" that appeared…which are from my favorites list. I have never seen that happen before. I cleared my history prior to this, so I'm at a loss. Most of those sites I haven't been to in ages anyway. I kinda doubt this has anything to do with a virus, it just isn't normal though. Other than those, this is a case closed! Daemon is the shizzle! I've installed at least 2 Microsoft major updates, but I guess I missed one somewhere. I'm usually pretty good at that sort of thing. I'll get to it in a sec. Other than that, my PC seems to back to its normal self the way it was before this happened on Friday morning. I'll see what I come up with on the d330 and send it to ya. I'm gonna take what I learned from this and try to fix my best friends computer. I might be back in the future for help with his PC problems. Okay, for now…thaz all. :)
Okay, maybe I'm paranoid now.

When I went to update at Microsoft, it said I had ActiveX disabled, so I went to Norton Internet Securities to change my setting on my Firewall. When I went to Configure my Firewall, I got some Microsoft pop-up message:
"Windows installer…preparing to install."

Next thing I knew, my security was off and everything was disabled. When I clicked to restart, I received an error message saying closing Microsoft "ssApp" or something that looks like that. I should've written it down. I just remember that the "A" was in caps.

I Restarted to several pop-ups saying something along the lines of "unknown microsoft host trying to access using the following module." I can't remember exactly what all was said there, but Norton suggested to permit, and I kept blocking because it didn't seem right…but I could not access the internet that way. I finally permitted them and am back on-line, but I still cannot configure my Norton Firewall so that I can update at Microsoft.

I ran HJT and don't see anything different from the last one. I'm gonna try my Norton stuff again, but chances are it will close down everything…I'll try to write down whatever pops up this time.

Edit: I had to change my security settings to LOW to allow the Microsfoft updates to work. I reset back to medium. I am now updated on MS Security Updates.

Edit2: I just tried the Norton Firewall and got the Windows installer message, so I cancelled it, but then it completely exited my Internet securities from my screen and my tray. WTF?? I have no idea what that is about.
