Greetings and welcome to TomCoyote.org!

Please make a PERMANANT folder for Hijack This!

Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.
MOVE HijackThis into this folder.

If required a tutorial is here = Hijackthis Folder Tutorial

Download Killbox.zip

Extract it from the zip file, but don't run it yet.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Scan".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VBundleOuterDL] C:\Program Files\VBouncer\BundleOuter.EXE

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [salm] c:\temp\salm.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows AdControl] C:\Program Files\Windows AdControl\WinAdCtl.exe

O4 - Global Startup: winlogin.exe

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: udgrkuxkk8ost8.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll

Then click "Fix checked".

on Killbox.exe to run it. In the 'Paste Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste this entry:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\winlogin.exe

Don't click any of the buttons though, instead please click on the Action menu and choose "Delete on Reboot". In the window that opens up, click on the File menu and choose "Add File". The file should show up in the window. Then repeat the process, this time adding:

C:\Windows\System32\udgrkuxkk8ost8.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll

If that's successful you should have the two files listed. Then repeat so that these files appear in the list as well:

C:\Program Files\Windows AdControl\WinAdCtl.exe
c:\temp\salm.exe
C:\Program Files\VBouncer\BundleOuter.EXE

When they are all there (and double check!), in the same window choose the Action menu and select "Process and Reboot". You'll be prompted to reboot, do so.

Find and delete:

c:\program files\vbouncer <— FOLDER

c:\program files\windows adcontrol <— FOLDER

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot mode and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)

I dont think this worked :(
Some of the malware is gone…. Some came back.

If you'll notice, the ".dll.dll" file has changed names.

Let's try a "thorough" cleaning, and see where it gets us.

Please download and run Spybot-Search&Destroy and Ad-Aware; they are the standard programs for finding and cleaning malware off your system. Here are links to both programs, and instructions for their use.

Get Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de
(This is the NEW Version 1.3)
Get AdAware SE Personal from http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download
(This is the NEW Build 1.05)

Download and install these programs if you don't already have them. If you do have them, make sure they are UPDATED AND CONFIGURED AS DESCRIBED here:

http://www.cjwd.demon.co.uk/spybot-adaware.html

Reboot after running each program.

When finished, post a new log file, in this thread.

I dont think it worked :(
It wasn't a total loss.

It removed "C:\Program Files\Windows AdControl\WinAdCtl.exe"

Go here to download the free version of Grisoft's AVG AntiVirus program. Go here here to download the free version of Emsisoft's a2 AntiTrojan program.

Install both programs, check for updates and scan your system allowing them to remove whatever they find.

Then post a new Hijack This! log.

Stupid virus!!
We are making progress.

If you'll notice, the ".dll.dll" didn't "morph" (change names).

We may have this beat now.

First, go to this folder on your machine:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\

And delete all the files with:

dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll

At the end of them that you can.

Leave the files that have just ONE ".dll" on the end alone!

Click here to download and install Registrar Lite. Install, run, copy and paste this line to reglite's address bar:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\AppInit_DLLs

Click the "go" tab. Find the: "Appinit_Dlls" key in the right hand pane and and double click to find the "Value" data. Confirm that:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\wxv9cxsuh6epnm.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll

appears in the 'Value' field.

Erase the data in the 'Value' box, hit 'Apply' and 'Ok' to set.

Close all programs, reboot, and post a new log file.
OK I went through all the files on my WINDONWS\system32 looking for all dll.dll files and I couldnt find any at all. The only thing that came close was utildll.dll Does that count? Should I delete that file? Should I do the other things with Registrar Lite that you said to? Thanks, Brandon

OMG OMG I THINK ITS GONE!!!!!! IS IT????
It's dead.

One "optional" fix, uninstall "Viewpoint Manager", then reboot.

It's considered "spyware".

You should probably uninstall the anti-virus program I had you install. It's not a good idea to have more than one AV product active at the same time. It looks like you already had Mcafee running.

Good work!!!!

M68 :)

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?" here:

http://boards.cexx.org/viewtopic.php?t=957

Download IE-Spyad here:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings here:

http://browsercheck.qualys.com/index.php

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.
(Personally, I'm NOT recommending SP2 for XP at this time)
