My son installed Lop via an email from a friend, and I have been unable to remove the toolbars even with adaware and spybot.
Can anyone see where the problem is??

Thanks Micah 6:8! :)

Following your instructions seems to have rid me of this malware. One or two keys were not exactly as described, but this may have been partly due to my attempts to remove lop since I posted. I managed to download an uninstaller from the lop site, but all this seemed to do was remove it temporarily - the toolbars kept returning.

Here is the log after fixing, there may still be one or two suspicious looking keys, (e.g. the first one), but I seem to be free of lop:

Hi once again. Here was me thinking all was well, but today I went into IE and there was lop again. :(
I followed your latest instructions, but I also noticed that flaptitle.exe, and a few other nasties had reappeared. I hope I am not jumping the gun, but I took the liberty of following your procedure to delete their registry entries again, and the folders they were located in. Anyway, here is the log after completing all that.

Thanks once again for your help.

The log looks good now.

Believe it or not, this is most likely how you got "LOPPED":

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MessengerPlus3] "C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3\MsgPlus.exe" /WinStart

This comes with LOP bundled into it.

If it comes back, the first thing I would recommend you do is uninstall "Messenger Plus! 3".

GOD bless!!!

M68 :)

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?" here:

http://boards.cexx.org/viewtopic.php?t=957

Download IE-Spyad here:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings here:

http://browsercheck.qualys.com/index.php

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.

:D Thanks very much! My son "got rid of" Messenger Plus 3 by deleting the folder in Program Files! It was sent to him originally by a friend. I think that since then I also tried to uninstall it from Add/Remove programs, but it left the entry in the registry. I have now deleted the entry, hopefully that clears everything.
