Greetings and welcome to TomCoyote.org!

Please try Spybot and Adaware one more time, make sure they are UPDATED AND CONFIGURED AS DESCRIBED here:

http://www.cjwd.demon.co.uk/spybot-adaware.html

Reboot after running each program.

Please try these free online virus scans of your system:

Trend-Micro Housecall

Panda Activescan

Etrust Security Advisor

Choose "fix" or "clean".

Let them remove any infections found. Reboot after each scan.

Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.
MOVE HijackThis into this folder, and OFF your desktop.

If required a tutorial is here = Hijackthis Folder Tutorial

Then "copy/paste" a new log file in this thread, and we'll see what malware is left to deal with.
:)
OK, Micah. Whew! Been trying to follow your advice since 6:00PM. My computer is THAT slow & doing even crazier things. One problem happened as I was trying to save the AdAware log. The computer shut down on its own, then restarted on its own. MS popups appeared containing the following:

The Error Signature contained:
BC Code: 1000008e BCP1: C0000005 BCP2: 00000157 BCP3: F1COFCC8
BCP4: 00000000 OSVer:5_1_2600 SP:0_0 Product:256_1

The Error Report contained:
C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini 111604-01.dmp
C:\DOCUM~1\debbie\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER1. tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml

 YO MICAH. Followed your instructions. I have 1 question. In searching for the listed files to delete, I found quite a few files with an additional, similar file listed. For instance, the search for "comaddin.exe" found "comaddin – Windows\system32" AND "COMADDIN.EXE-0870A3EDPF -C\Windows\Prefetch".
I deleted both such files when found. Should I have done that or do I need to retrieve some from the Recycle Bin? And, bytheway–THANK YOU for all your time!! NEW HJT LOG:

Almost there.

Please download the latest version of Hijack This!

Links to Hijack This! v 1.98.2:

http://tools.radiosplace.com/HijackThis.exe
http://spywarewarrior.com/files/HijackThis.exe

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Scan".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [netid] C:\WINDOWS\System32\netid.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [lmrt] C:\WINDOWS\System32\lmrt.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [lftif10n] C:\WINDOWS\System32\lftif10n.exe

Then click "Fix checked".

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Find and delete:
(Please delete ONLY these files, in ONLY the said folder)

c:\windows\system32\lftif10n.exe <— file

c:\windows\system32\lmrt.exe <— file

c:\windows\system32\netid.exe <— file

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)

As an optional fix, I would recommend uninstalling the following program (then reboot). It is considered to be spyware:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
 MICAH. Instructions followed including deleting ViewMgr.exe. I think it's running a little better. Next move?

Next move?

I'd say it's time to pop the cork on the champagne bottle, and celebrate your independence from malware!!!!

GOD bless!!!

M68 :)

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?" here:

http://boards.cexx.org/viewtopic.php?t=957

Download IE-Spyad here:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings here:

http://browsercheck.qualys.com/index.php

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.
(Personally, I'm NOT recommending SP2 for XP at this time)

:D MICAH. Two questions & I'll leave you alone. Can I go ahead and delete the quarantine and immunized files in my virus scanners? And, I have never downloaded Windows XP Service Pack 1–mainly because it would never complete installing. Deb
Anything the virus scan quarantines should be safe to delete. If a file is "quarantined", that means the whole file is a virus. If a file is "cleaned", it means a virus had attached itself to the file in some fashion, and the AV program "cleaned" the virus from the file making it safe again. Do you get any one particular error when trying to update to SP1?
