F6: if you press F6 it will highlight the address bar, so you only have to hit delete then type the new address.
F2: if you highlight a folder and hit F2 it lets you rename it.

Keyboards that have had the F keys programmed may not operate this way as the programming of the key takes precedence over the default action, but great tip!

As a guy who grew up with DOS in the 80s, before these GUI mice came along, I've always found shortcuts a boon and it's great still to be learning new ones.
F6 is handy - it's like just pointing at the address but try F3 - it's is a quick way of getting to the search-within-a-web-page function (quicker in Firefox than in where's-that-spittoon internet-explorer which launches msn search).
F11 is also useful for getting more on the screen than normal...but then one day when I'm big and grown up I'll get a 17" TFT screen, so who needs it!

F4 also highlights the address bar, but it drops down the list of items that is contained therein - in IE, that would be a list of recently typed URLs and such, and in Explorer, it's a folder tree starting at the desktop and going down a la File Manager.
About renaming a program. I have tried to rename my recycling bin to Osama bin to be funny but that the only file I have found that you cant. Anyone know why?
I believe that's because it's built into the Operating System. In other words, you can't rename parts of the System.
I could be wrong, and I'm sure someone will correct this if I'm wrong.

Hi Crow,
That's quite a rig there- almost as nice as the Sinclair ZX-81 that I souped up by making a 4KB memory board to replace the 1KB it came with. (Sigh)
Ah, for the good old days. And if you believe that one, I've got a bridge for you!

Great I've been wanting to use those keys for something. F3 brings up my find files box which is cool cos I hate pointing and clicking through menus all the time. Gets kinda jaded. So what does F5 do seems to be refreshing the page is that right. F7,F8,F9,F10 and F12 all seem dead. I am using windows 98 though. Can they be used for something? Lynchy (still spy free and lovin it)
