Hello,

Please print out the following instructions….

NewDotNet needs to be removed:

First, please open Add/Remove programs and uninstall New.Net or NewDotNet from there if listed. If it is not listed, go here to get the uninstaller http://www.newdotnet.com/#remove Carefully follow the written instructions.

Reboot computer when done.

If you are not running version 1.3 of Spybot S & D, click here to download Spybot Search & Destroy v1.3 - install, update, scan in Safe Mode……

Reboot into safe mode, this way:
Restart the computer
Immediately begin tapping the <F8> key.
Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode and press the <Enter> key.

Fix all RED checked items it finds. Reboot to normal mode when done.

Perform a customized Ad-aware scan in Safe Mode……..

If you do not have the latest version of Ad-aware SE Personal, Build 1.05, click here to download Ad-Aware and install. Before scanning click on "check for updates now" to make sure you have the latest reference file. Then boot into Safe Mode, start the program, and click the gear wheel at the top and check these options to configure Ad-aware for a customized scan:

Under "General Settings" all available options should be selected.

Click the "Scanning" button.
Under "Drives, Folders and Files," select "Scan within Archives".
Click "Drives and folders to scan" and select your installed hard drives.
Under "Memory & Registry," select all options.

Click the "Advanced" button.
Under "Logfile detail level," select all options.

Click the "Defaults" button.
Under "Default IE Pages" set the "Default homepage" and "Default search page" to what you want them to be; otherwise, Ad-aware will reset them. Do not select the option to "Read current settings from system"… manually fill in the desired web address for each. (For instance, if you want Google as your search page, fill in www.google.com in the "Default search page" field).

Click the "Tweak" button.
Under "Scanning Engine," select the following:
"Unload recognized processes during scanning."
Under "Cleaning Engine," select the following:
"Always try to unload modules before deletion."
"During removal unload Explorer and IE if necessary."
"Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."
Click on "Proceed" to save these Preferences.

Run the Ad-Aware scan, making sure that the mode selected is "Full Scan."

When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next." The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?" Reboot into normal mode when finished.

Now, perform online virus scans at both Trend Micro and Panda Software. Also, perform an online Trojan scan. (Use the links in my signature below). Allow the programs to delete all that they may find. Reboot after each scan.

Next, scan with HijackThis and post a fresh log, including the header as well as all other lines, first through last, into this same thread.
Thanks for your help..sorry its taken so long for me to get back to this, but I have been out of town on business. Here is my new logfile

Hello,

You're welcome. :)

Right now, you have HijackThis in a temporary folder where any backups made by the program and the program itself can be accidentally deleted.

Please create a new folder on the C: drive and name it C:\HJT or something similar. You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select "New" then "Folder" and name it HJT. Now, use the "cut" and "paste" functions to move HijackThis.exe into the new folder.

Your log is clean now, with the possible exception of one entry…

If an Administrator has not set a policy restricting access to Internet Explorer settings and you have not configured any software such as Spybot SD or a similar program to prevent changing Internet Explorer settings, then you can fix this 06 entry with HijackThis:

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

If the above entry is something you did not set, then scan with HijackThis and place a check mark next to the O6 entry then, with all other windows closed, select "Fix Checked."

Please delete your temporary files by deleting all files and folders that are in those folders (do not delete the temp folder itself) like for example:

C:\WINDOWS\Temp\

C:\Temp\

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\

Also delete your Temporary Internet Files, be sure to also select "delete all offline content."

Empty your Recycle Bin.

I would suggest you clear your restore points now:

Turn off System Restore.

Right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot.

Turn ON System Restore.

Right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Un-Check *Turn off System Restore.*
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Set a new system restore point.

The following is extremely important if you do not want to be reinfected with malware…

Click here to go to the Windows Update site. Download and install ALL critical updates. You are running a system that is not updated. It has no Service Packs installed for Win XP nor Internet Explorer. As long as this situation continues, your system will be a magnet for malware.

Reboot when finished.

Here are a few tips to help you keep your system clean in the future…

Download IE-SPYAD here: https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

It will place over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so that you don't accidentally visit innocent appearing sites that aren't really innocent.

Scan often with Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-aware to remove malware before it gains a foothold on your computer.

Make sure you keep your system updated by frequent visits to the Windows Update site. Always install ALL critical updates.

Please take a minute or two to read the short article, "How did I get infected in the first place?" (See link in my signature below). You will find good information on keeping your system clean in the future, as well as links for excellent free anti-spyware tools.
Hello,
