I have two Dell Window XP computers networked together through a router and attached to cable internet. We have had the cable internet for only about 2 weeks, and my one teen-age son has evidently downloaded something that is causing problems on the Dell 2003 computer.

I have run Spybot and find BargainBuddy and 5 DSO Exploit entries. I can “remove” them, but they come back each time the computer is restarted.

I have run Adaware and find lots of BargainBuddy and several “Possible Browser Hijack Attempt” – {www.exactadvertising.com}. I remove them, but they also come back each time the computer is restarted.

I also have problems when shutting down the computer with “HiddenFaxWindow” not shutting down. I am not sure what this is, but it is probably “no good”.

I cannot access the internet on that computer by using Internet Explorer or the Firefox browser that I obtained today. I have tried “repairing” the LAN/high speed internet connection, but I get a message that: The following steps of the repair operation failed: Renewing the IP address and Flushing the ARP cache.

Sometimes the “virtual memory” is “full”, and the computer works at a “slower than a snail’s pace”, until it is restarted. I am not sure which problem is causing this, but…… I would like to fix it.

The cursor seems to sometimes continuously (?) have a flashing “hourglass” next to it, as though it is “working” on something, although there is nothing observable that I can see. [Like a child doing “nothing”, when you suspect that they ARE doing “something” – that they are not supposed to be doing?]

On Startup, I get a message that “Symantec e-mail proxy cannot scan e-mail because network not configured”. I am thinking that this is due to the internet connection not working for this computer at the moment?

PROBLEMS ON THE SECOND COMPUTER:

On the Dell 2001 computer I have something called “n-case”. It does not seem to be causing any “drastic” problems at this point, but I would like to remove it permanently. I have used Spybot to remove it, but it keeps returning when the computer is restarted. Adaware only found 10 tracking cookies (data miner, IE cache entry), so I don’t seem to have any persistent problems there. {how/why do people have time to dream up this stuff to force the rest of us to spend hours getting rid of it?????}

[PS. I typed this whole thing on MSWord, and copy/pasted the Logs from notepad, before copy/pasting the whole thing to the forum. I hope this did not “change” anything important to diagnosing the problems?]
