Hello - I always turn here if I cannot determine the cause myself, and it's worked everytime so far, so I'm hoping someone here can come thru again.

A little background info: Dell Dimension 3000, P4 2.8ghz, 512 ram, XP home.

user first complained of very slow internet access/email download. software ran fine at first, now it's starting to affect the software as well. every other PC connected on their network has good internet speed & no problems. I did the standard Spybot, Adaware, virus scan with AVG, etc.

Can anyone spot anything that is not right with this HJT log?

ANY help is GREATLY appreciated! thank you very much!

Bryan

one additional note - I did an internet speedtest on dslreports.com, and my download speed is 67 kb/s, upload is 734 kb/s. the PC i have right next to it (same network) averaged a download speed of 6646 Kb/s, and upload of 786 Kb/s. obviously something is crippling my download speed. thank you again for any help
Hello Bryan,

Clean log . Just update your Java.
  • Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
  • Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
  • It should have an icon next to it:
    [external image: Posted Image]
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Reboot your system.
  • Then go to the Sun Microsystems and install the update
  • Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 2 <–This is what you need to download and install.
  • If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
  • If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
  • Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future

Thank you very much for your reply. I did what you recommended, and updated the Java. I followed your exact instructions, and verified it, and it says I have completed the Java install successfully. I rebooted, and i still have the same problem. super slow internet. it boots up fine, software runs ok (not my machine, so i'm not sure how fast or slow the software normally runs), but the internet just d-r-a-g-s… i tried doing another internet speed test, and it took forever to complete the test, and my speed was only 4 kb/s!!! compared to other machines running 6000+ kb/s on the same network. I think i will try your suggestion and post on that internet forum. Any more thoughts/suggestions? here's another HJT log AFTER the Java update. Thank you very much. Bryan
