Ji. Siggyx, Cannot scan with ravonline. Will not complete the page, leaves all pictures and words blank. Thought I had it on the computer but can't find it. Tried to download and it will not extract the files. the mwav file I ran earlier that listed 933 errors usually only had 2. Got to thinking about it. Did remove the old and replace it prior to running. What next?
Hello,
ran several scans results following;
adAware SE =3 critical, 13 non critical
spyBot =DSO and 8 others
a squared= nothing found
mwav= 945 errors nothing else

Rebooted and here is the HJT file

Siggyx, Had a lot of fun tring to do as you requested, but I was able for the most part. Since I can't link from anything I entered 3wdesign and was able toget the web page. When I tried to download it waould start then go to unable to open at page, Documents and Settings\JoelOverstreet\localSettings\temporary internet files\content.IE5\GZIJKL45\security[3].htm. I tried several more times with the same results. Was able to run housecall but nothing was found. Put the XP disk in and tried to run SFC/SCANNOW but the file could not be found. Something is stopping any attempt to run programs connected to cleaning or stopping. cannot search from windows or use the run section. Any other ideas???? offfni
Hi offfni. Click the link to download a file that contains rkdetector, unzip it (make sure you do that first) and then doubleclick run.bat which is inside. A blank window will pop up for awhile and then disappear. You will then find a file called log.txt in the same folder as rkdetector.exe, open that file and paste the contents as a reply here.

Lets verify that you are free of root kits (which can hide malicious files) first, then we will proceed with other fix steps. I do have one other area I would like you to check. Please verify that there is not a copy of rundll32.exe in C: or C:\windows. The only copy should be in c:\windows\system32.

Also, please post a fresh HijackThis! log.

Download this file
Before you double click run.bat, delete the log.txt file that already exists in the folder (after you have unzipped it). I accidently left the one from my test run in there. Sorry about that.
rand1038, siggyx,
Thanks for looking at the files. Is getting frustrating.
I cannot link so everything is manual, but still trying.
Cannot down load RKdetector, multiple tries the page comes up, starts to download then goes to unable to access page with url of Documents and settings\temporary internet files\contient.IE5\8L6F4HZV\security[1].htm did download a security icon that does nothing when clicked.

Only could find the rundll32 file in the proper place which may or may not be true since I cannot search, nothing happens when I try.

Still cannot find the sfc.scannow file when I try to run it. Could be doing something wrong but I don't think so.

HJT log from fresh reboot.

Thanks for your time and efforts.
First, lets get rid of some things that don't need to be running. These are not malware, just resource hogs. Stopping them from running at startup should make booting faster and free up memory on your system.

Run HijackThis and click scan. Click the box next to each of the following entries. After you have checked them all, click "fix checked"

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SetIcon] C:\Program Files\Icons\SetIcon.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PCDRealtime] C:\WINDOWS\realtime.exe

If you really need messenger to run at startup then don't click this one for fixing.
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background

This one has been in your log for awhile. Lets get it out of there and delete the folder. If you need to repair/reinstall IE after we finish the fix, you can.
O4 - Startup: Resume Windows Update Installation.lnk = C:\WINDOWS\Windows Update Setup Files\ie6setup.exe

Reboot your computer

Delete the whole C:\WINDOWS\Windows Update Setup Files folder.

See if you can download this file. It is a local link for RKDetector and may work better for you. If you can then unzip it first, next look in the unzipped folder for a file called log.txt and delete it. After you do that, double click run.bat and wait for the command prompt window to close (it may take a minute or more). You will find a new log.txt file in the same folder as run.bat, open it and paste the contents here.

What we are trying to find out is if there are any malicious root kits on your machine which may be hiding files that are causing your problems.

If you cannot download the file, send me an email (randsscripts at comcast dot net) and I will mail it to you.
rand1038,
I downloaded ravantivirus and RKDetector to a thumb drive and am running it rom there since the computer will not allow me to move it. Same as with the origional HJT.

I will sent several post since I cannot minimize without losing the page. I think we can progress now. Felt good just deleting something, gives one hope.
