Please Be So Kind As To Help After Spyware Hit Me

I got smacked with adware/spyware this weekend and I think I removed the most malicious pieces. At least I can see it's no longer adding things into my reg\local machine\software\microsoft\windows\current version. I ran Spybot, Ad-Aware, Pepper Remover, Norton AV 2003 (updated daily), and CWShredder. I reviewed all files changed or added on the date this happened (and it looks okay now). I've rebooted several times and I don't see anything suspicious in my start folder or running in my task manager. Now, I'm off to make sure that the task scheduler doesn't indicate plans to do anything bad in the near future. Four hours later, one thing is for sure… I'm probably not done.

So… This leaves me to assume that the registry still needs to be cleaned. Can someone please be kind enough to let me know what I should do here? I'm going to clean this up and then start using Foxfire. That should avoid at least small amount of the risk.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I just printed your previous reply and already followed that. Now I came back and saw that you pulled that reply. Yikes… should not have followed those steps? Oh well… too late. I'm off to run a TrendMicro scan and then post up a new log.
Its ok that fix will work it is just that another helper was doing a write up and I got in ahead thats all. So post a new hijackthis log whern your done ;)
There was no cacl.exe or ??plorer.exe to delete, but otherwise I completed all your suggested steps. I'm amazed that TrendMicro found 3 trojans that Norton AV has been missing.

Here's a new hijackthis log. And thanks again for your time. I really appreciate it.

Looks good :D

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. In my signature below is also a tutorial on how to harden IE, a good read and very helpful to stop these things in the future. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on.

Safe Surfing. :D
If I'm using Firefox instead of IE, do you still recommend those 3 first progs? Probably not the last one at least. Thanks again. You're the best!!!!
Yup… That's why I'm not switching to Mozilla. I've learned the error of my ways. But since I may find a need for IE once in a while, I'm off to install those programs. Thanks.
Fixing my typo… Yup… That's why I'm NOW switching to Mozilla. I've learned the error of my ways. But since I may find a need for IE once in a while, I'm off to install those programs. Thanks.
