My 1st Log....please Help

11 min read

This thread's last reply is from . Advice, software, and links below may be out of date — treat specific steps and download links with caution.

Looking for the outcome? Ask AI

This is the "longhand" version of the URL:

http://www.eudaemonia.me.uk/downloads/Files/KillBox.zip

This "fix" has worked on the first try for me 3 times in a row now. All 3 of the people have downloaded from that URL. When I click the link in my last post, it works for me.

Maybe their server was having problems when you were trying to download.

Try downloading again.

If you can't get it to download, you may have to PM me your email addy so I can send it to you as an email attachment.

Don't know what else to try. :(
Hi I just ran the old kill box and added the files you asked and rebooted to complete the task. Upon running HJT after the reboot I was unable to find the specific files ou told me to check, however, there seems to be some other files there that are malicious, please advise, here's the log:

It probably didn't work because you have rebooted since I posted my "fix".

Each time you reboot, it can "morph", and the file names can change, therefore the "fix" doesn't get everything.

Let's do it once more. If you have rebooted since you made the log, just post another log because the "fix" probably won't work.

Run Killbox.exe. (the one you got from here:

http://www.eudaemonia.me.uk/downloads/Files/KillBox.zip

The other one will not work)

In the 'Paste Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste this entry:

C:\DOCUME~1\Vanesh\LOCALS~1\Temp\sndnu.dat

Don't click any of the buttons though, instead please click on the Action menu and choose "Delete on Reboot". In the window that opens up, click on the File menu and choose "Add File". The file should show up in the window. Then repeat the process, this time adding:

C:\WINDOWS\undns.exe

If that's successful you should have the two files listed. Then repeat so that these files appear in the list as well:

C:\Windows\System32\hostx.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\bkinst.exe

When they are all there (and double check!), in the same window choose the Action menu and select "Process and Reboot". You'll be prompted to reboot, do so.

Using HijackThis, close all browser windows, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

O2 - BHO: CATLEvents Object - {55E301E5-BA44-4095-BB0B-14E0123CCF71} - C:\DOCUME~1\Vanesh\LOCALS~1\Temp\sndnu.dat

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [*undns] C:\WINDOWS\undns.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [*undns] C:\WINDOWS\undns.exe rerun

O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [*MS Setup] C:\WINDOWS\system32\bkinst.exe ren time:1098743574

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Delete all files in this folder:

c:\documents and settings\vanesh\local settings\temp <— Delete all files in this folder.

Reboot in normal mode, rescan with HJT and post the log.
I'm sorry, I did reboot. I will not reboot until I get this all sorted out. Anyways here is the log:

The instructions in the last post are still good.

This has worked for everyone I have suggested it to (almost 10 others now).

Just follow the directions, and you should be able to finally get this off your machine.

Good luck! :)
Sometimes I'm as dense as tikwood….

As Forrest Gump once said,"Stupid is as stupid does"…..

And I can be so STUPID!!!!! :rant2:

A very astute, and knowledgable associate has seen the error in my fix.

Killbox doesn't recognize abbreviated file names….

Let's try this one more time…

Run Killbox.exe. (the one you got from here:

http://www.eudaemonia.me.uk/downloads/Files/KillBox.zip

The other one will not work)

In the 'Paste Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste this entry:

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\Vanesh\LOCAL SETTINGS\Temp\sndnu.dat

I apologogize for my error. :)
Hi, I think this worked. However, I ran HJT and was unable to find the Runonce processes (Runonce:[*undns]……and runonce:[*MSSetup] ) Anyways I clicked and fixed the other two files. I deleted the temp file and rebooted as u said. Here is the new log:

Finally!!!! :D

I knew there had to be a reason the fix wasn't working for you.

The reason was that science has finally found the "perfect vacuum" - the space between my ears!!! :weee:

I think I need a brainwash.

I'm sure it wouldn't take more than a Q-tip and a thimble of water.

Anyway, the log looks great!!!

Only one "optional fix".

Go to:

Start > Control Panel > Add/remove programs, and remove:

"Viewpoint Manager", then reboot. It is considered spyware.

I apologize it has taken this long to free you from malware.

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?" here:

http://boards.cexx.org/viewtopic.php?t=957

Download IE-Spyad here:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings here:

http://browsercheck.qualys.com/index.php

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.

Glad we could help :D
