Hi I fixed the items you told me to, but was unable to find most of the files you wanted me to delete. I did search the hidden files and folders as well. Please take a look at the scan I just ran and let me know if there anything further I need to do. Thanks again for all your help.

We're getting closer.

This can be a little tricky to defeat.

Push these three keys at the same time:

The task manager appears on the screen.

Click the "Processes" tab, then click "Image name" to sort them alphabetically.

In the list of running processes, find all of these that may be in there:

bkinst.exe
bakmc.exe
nurnu.dat
unrun.exe
WindowsUpd2.exe

Click them to highlight them, them click "End process".

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Scan".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)

O2 - BHO: CATLEvents Object - {6A06CDAD-9D2D-42A0-9C91-C0CF7CB9971B} - C:\DOCUME~1\Vanesh\LOCALS~1\Temp\nurnu.dat

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SysUpd] C:\WINDOWS\WindowsUpd2.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [*bakmc] C:\WINDOWS\Web\bakmc.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [*unrun] C:\WINDOWS\system\unrun.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [*unrun] C:\WINDOWS\system\unrun.exe rerun

O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [*MS Setup] C:\WINDOWS\system32\bkinst.exe ren time:1098239243

Then click "Fix checked".

Click on Config then click on Misc Tools. At the new screen click on the 'Delete a file on reboot' button. You will be presented with a dialog asking you to pick a file. Copy and paste:

C:\DOCUME~1\Vanesh\LOCALS~1\Temp\nurnu.dat

into the file name field and press the open button. Hijackthis will prompt you to reboot, click 'No' and click the 'Delete a file on reboot button' again. In the box that appears copy and paste:

C:\WINDOWS\WindowsUpd2.exe

Again you will be prompted to reboot, click 'No' and repeat the sequence for all these files:

C:\WINDOWS\Web\bakmc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system\unrun.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\bkinst.exe

After the last file has been entered, when you are prompted to reboot, do so.

"Copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)

I told you this can be a little difficult to remove. <_<

The "canned fix" we have is ambiguous at best, so I'm "ad-libbing" here.

Please bear with me.

Download and unzip Killbox.zip.

CLOSE ALL INTERNET EXPLORER WINDOWS (even this one)!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Scan".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O2 - BHO: CATLEvents Object - {DF57FEB6-9BCE-45E3-AA65-BE327B8CCE7F} - C:\DOCUME~1\Vanesh\LOCALS~1\Temp\sabrba.dat

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [*xmlimg] C:\WINDOWS\system\xmlimg.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [*abrbas] C:\WINDOWS\Web\abrbas.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [*abrbas] C:\WINDOWS\Web\abrbas.exe rerun

O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [*MS Setup] C:\WINDOWS\system32\bkinst.exe ren time:1098298066

Then click "Fix checked".

Close Hijack This!

Run Killbox.

Click on the down arrow at the right side of the [System Process] box.

Find and click on:

bkinst.exe

Then click the yellow triange to end the task.

Find, click on, and end, any/and all of these as well:

abrbas.exe
xmlimg.exe
sabrba.dat

At the top of Killbox, click on "Tools", "Delete Temp Files", then "OK".

Check the dot to the left of "Delete on Reboot".

In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box paste the following line:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\bkinst.exe

Click on the red X ("Delete File" button). In the next box that pops up, click "No".

Next, in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box paste the following line:

OK… Let's approach it from slighlty different angle.

I just defeated a Stopguard infection in the "Virus and Trojan" section of this forum using this method. Let's see how it works for you. The only difference is that you seem to have one more very resistant file. I'm not sure exactly how that is going to figure in all this, but I guess we'll soon find out.

Push these three keys to start the task manager:

Click on the "Processes" tab, then click on "Image name" to alphabetize them.

Find all these in the list of running processes:

sabrba.dat
abrbas.exe
bkinst.exe

Click them to highlight them, then click "End process".

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Scan".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O2 - BHO: CATLEvents Object - {DF57FEB6-9BCE-45E3-AA65-BE327B8CCE7F} - C:\DOCUME~1\Vanesh\LOCALS~1\Temp\sabrba.dat

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [*abrbas] C:\WINDOWS\Web\abrbas.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [*abrbas] C:\WINDOWS\Web\abrbas.exe rerun

O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [*MS Setup] C:\WINDOWS\system32\bkinst.exe ren time:1098319979

Then click "Fix checked".

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Find and delete:

c:\docume~1\vanesh\locals~1\temp <— Delete all files in this folder.

c:\windows\web\abrbas.exe <— file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\bkinst.exe <— file

Also search your system for a file named "hostx.exe", and delete it if found.

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode.

This is where it get's "different" from what you did once before.

Please download and run Spybot-Search&Destroy and Ad-Aware; they are the standard programs for finding and cleaning malware off your system. Here are links to both programs, and instructions for their use.

Get Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de (This is the NEW Version 1.3)
Get AdAware SE Personal from http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download

Download and install these programs if you don't already have them. If you do have them, make sure they are UPDATED AND CONFIGURED AS DESCRIBED here:

http://www.cjwd.demon.co.uk/spybot-adaware.html

Reboot after running each program.

"Copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)
OK I did what u said, however, I was unable to delete the c:\windows\web\abrbas.exe it said to make sure it is not write protected. Anyway here s the log:

Let's try the older version of Killbox - uninstall/delete the one you have then click here to download the older version. Extract it from the zip file then double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. In the 'Paste Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste this entry:

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\Vanesh\LOCAL SETTINGS\Temp\sabrba.dat

Don't click any of the buttons though, instead please click on the Action menu and choose "Delete on Reboot". In the window that opens up, click on the File menu and choose "Add File". The file should show up in the window. Then repeat the process, this time adding:

C:\WINDOWS\Web\abrbas.exe

If that's successful you should have the two files listed. Then repeat so that these files appear in the list as well:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\bkinst.exe
C:\Windows\System32\hostx.exe

When they are all there (and double check!), in the same window choose the Action menu and select "Process and Reboot". You'll be prompted to reboot, do so.

Using HijackThis, close all browser windows, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

O2 - BHO: CATLEvents Object - {DF57FEB6-9BCE-45E3-AA65-BE327B8CCE7F} - C:\DOCUME~1\Vanesh\LOCALS~1\Temp\sabrba.dat

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [*abrbas] C:\WINDOWS\Web\abrbas.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [*abrbas] C:\WINDOWS\Web\abrbas.exe rerun

O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [*MS Setup] C:\WINDOWS\system32\bkinst.exe ren time:1098328907

Reboot when done. Rescan with HJT and post the log.
