I have a couple of questions. First, I ran XOFTSPY and the log file tells you which are threats, minimal threats, etc. Why does it say that my IEPlugin is a threat? Isn't that what I need for Internet Explorer to run correctly? Also some of the files that came up are under the category of "Data Miner" (including something called an IBIS Toolbar). Is it okay to delete these? Finally, I have AVG and it found a Trojan clicker AJ Horse but said it could not remove it. The horse was found in my WINDOWS Folder under 2_0_1browserhelper2.dll I refuse to delete anything off of my computer until I know what it is and if I need it. What exactly is this file and do I need it? How do I get rid of it then? I keep getting told by my comp that a Trojan horse was found and to run AVG but when I do, it finds the horse but for some reason it won't remove it. Thanks! Maggi

"2_0_1browserhelper2.dll" is a malware related file. :(

See this.

If you have that file, chances are you have other malware related files as well.

If you'd like me to check things over, please do this:

Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.
Download HijackThis into this folder.

First you need to go to:

Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, and remove "New.Net". Reboot afterwards.

Please download the latest version of Hijack This!

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Find and delete:

c:\program files\quicksearch <— FOLDER

c:\windows\inf\unregmp2.exe <— file

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)

OPTIONAL FIX

Go to:

Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, and remove "Viewpoint Manager". Reboot afterwards. It is considered to be spyware.

I guess the log is looking pretty good (if you don't mind Viewpoint Manager and Hotbar still being in there).

The only thing left that looks a little "fishy" is that it looks like you may have two antivirus products actuive at the same time.

If that is true, you should seriously consider uninstalling one of them. "Rule of thumb" is to unsintall the LAST one installed.

Other that that, I think you're good to go!

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.

Thanks! I tried to uninstall hotbar. I thought I got it, but I'll go check again. And I think I'll delete View point manager too. I didn't get rid of it before because I wasn't even sure what it was, how it got there, or if I needed it. But from the sound of things, I don't need it so it's going bye bye. I definitely need to get rid of some of my anti-virus software. I kept downloading them to try and get rid of what I had and nothing would work so I'd try another one. Too bad I didn't find this place sooner! Thanks a lot! And ya know, my computer is actually going much faster now!!!! Thanks again!
