Hi, this is my log. I can't get rid of my search bar, everytime I try to remove it through the control panel, it just does nothing at all. I'm sure there's all kinds of other things that need to be deleted as well. This is my Hijackthis log. ANY help at all would be greatly appreciated

Please download and run Spybot & AdAware SE . Then follow the instructions in the link below to run.

Step # 2

Then do a virus scan here >>> Micro World http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/free_utilities.asp

To run the virus scan make sure you click the following

memory, registry, startup folders, system folders, services, drive (all drives will be added) then click on scan clean.

Reboot and post a new HiJackThis log.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. It took me a minute to get everything scanned with what you told me to. I've been running adware & spybot for about 4 months now. I reinstalled the latest versions & ran scans, deleted alot of stuff & here's the new hijackthis log…

You have one good Spybot s&d (Teatimer option)

But prior to doing the fix below with hijackthis they need to be turned off.
Please do the following.

Right click the running icon of spybot's teatimer, and choose exit.

Unless they are turned off they could interfer with the fix by hijackthis.

Scan with hijackthis again and put a heck beside these lines and choose FIX.

You can also put a check beside all of the 016 lines as they are actviex files and will be reloaded if and when you visist those sites again.

Then reboot and post a new log. How is it running after the reboot?

Looks good :D :thumbup:

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. In my signature below is also a tutorial on how to harden IE, a good read and very helpful to stop these things in the future. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on.

Word… I have Norton 2004. I always use sbybot & adware. I usually try to keep my system pretty clean. Some stuff just gets by… I use the XP firewall… Thanks much for your help…. I'll check into those programs you reccomended… Thanks again… 'b
