I have run Spy Sweeper but I can't get rid of a Trojon Horse named Lzio. I stopped using Internet Explorer and started using netscape but Internet Explorer keeps popping up and the computer runs slow. Help. I have had the computer for about a month.

OPTIONAL FIX

Go to:

Start > Control Panel > Add/Remore Programs, and uninstall "Viewpoint Manager", then reboot.

It is considered "spyware"
Below is the new Hijackfile. I did everyhting that was asked and I also ran Spy Sweeper before runing the new hijack file. When I ran Spy Sweeper it found Lzio again. I am also considering installing XP Service Pack 2. What do you think?

Reboot in normal mode and post a new log file. :)

If Spysweeper finds it again, could you please post the names of the "infected" files, if possible?

Personally, I'm NOT recommending SP2 for XP. However, I have worked several logs of people that have already installed it.

Heres a link to a M$oft page about KNOWN problems with SP2:

Known SP2 Problems
I think you did it!!!!!! I did everthing you said. When I ran Spy Sweeper, it didn't find any Spyware!!!! As you can see I also updated to Service Pack 2. I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing. I checked out the website you sent me to and I will track the probems. I like Internet Exporer but I am using Netsape instead. Can I go back to internet explorer or do you suggest I stay with netsacpe? My hijack file is below.

Good job!!!!

The log is clean!!!

Netscape is generally less prone to infection than IE. However, with the right browser settings IE can be a "tough nut to crack". I use it and have only been infected once (when I was younger and more naive - last Feb. ). That's how I got involved in the malware war.

I just downloaded Netscape 7.2 this morning (I have 4.5, 6.2, and 7.1 on my machine as well). I haven't surfed much with it, but I have found the previous versions slower than IE.

GOD bless!!!

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?" here:

http://boards.cexx.org/viewtopic.php?t=957

Download IE-Spyad here:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings here:

http://browsercheck.qualys.com/index.php

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.

Thanks you so much for your help. You (and others like you) are providing a much needed service. Please keep up the good work. Do I need to do anyting to close out this log? Thanks again. Keith
Nah… I'll get the log closed.

One more thing….

Netscape doesn't support "active-x" compnents (games & other things like online virus scans). While active-x can be a source of infection, it is also a source of enjoyment.

There are several programs to help guard against malware active-x components:

Spyware Guard

Spyware Blaster

Are both highly recommended.
