i did not pay for them. i canceled my order with them. i realized after reading up on them that they were bogus outfit. that is when i learned about spybot and adware programs. it seems they are part of the problem i guess.

Get rid of them. In add and remove programs.

Google toolbar has a very good built in popup blocker with a nice search bar. To provide privacy, select disable advanced features when installing.

Then Download System Security Suite. Extract it from the zip file into a folder.

Under "items to clear" click all. Then click "clear selected items"

Install a firewall.ZoneAlarm FREE

Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. When HJT fixes anything, it makes backups of the original files in the folder it is in. Since Temporary folders are emptied now and then (the files are DELETED), it would not be a good idea to have your backups there. Those backups would be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!


1. Please go to you're 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder 'HJT'.

2. Copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

3. Close ALL windows except HJT

4. SCAN with HJT

5. POST the new log in this thread using 'Add Reply'

Google toolbar has a very good built in popup blocker with a nice search bar. To provide privacy, select disable advanced features when installing.

okay i have followed all the directions given including installing the firewall. that is where i ran into problems. with the firewall up i cannot access the internet at all. this is a problem i ran into with the mcafee security center. i thought the windows firewall would take the place of it so i went ahead and uninstalled the mcafee security center. i figured what the heck it didn't prevent me from getting into this mess. is there an internet explorer setting or something that i am missing. please help this challenged individual. here is the most recent hijackthis log that you requestedLogfile of HijackThis v1.98.2

i am going to bed. will check for your(s) reply(s) in the morning. i guess i should ask one other thing. how do i completely uninstall mcafee security center. i have tried from the install/uninstall utility and am told i cant because all other mcafee components must be deleted first. :rofl: i cant help myself. cant win for losing. please help this basket case………………………………jim

Close all Browser and Program Windows and have HijackThis fix the following by checking the box beside each and then clicking on Fix checked.

-Hewlett-Packard/Veritas DLA software {optional fix}

Delete the following files and folder listed
C:\Program Files\BestPopUpKiller

Some of these files and folders might have the hidden atribute

okay have followed the latest set of instructions and then some. i received some coaching from my sis n law about my firewall situation. i was having trouble during this process with my original mcafee firewall plus and security center factory installed from dell. i know you guys said to install the free program but i was having the same problem. she told me it was because i had never uninstalled mcafee correctly when i was trying to uninstall and then reinstall. i know i am going in circles here. anyway i uninstalled the zonealarm and correctly uninstalled all components of the mcafee security center this time. i then reinstalled all facets of the mcafee security center including virus scan, personal firewall plus, and privacy service. i restarted and bingo it is working correctly again. i am getting all the warnings now when sites are trying to put cookies on the system. i am rejecting all except those i know are legit. my virus scan is up to date and showing know problems. sybot and ad aware are just showing non threatening alerts when i run them. here is my latest hijack this log:Logfile of HijackThis v1.98.2

please let me know what else is left to do. everything seems to be running okay now as far as i can tell. sometimes when i switch from website to website the speed seems to be lacking a little. when things grind to a halt i hit stop and then refresh and the site loads fine. is this a sign of anything. you guys have been great so far. thanks again………………………………………..jim :D
