Fast question. When you look for those files I am asking you to delete are you able to find them? If you are where are they C:/system32 ? We will try a removal tool once you confirm this for me.
Siggyx, Initially the files were in system32, but now they're in all different places, and never the same ones. I probably only find half of the files each time, but they are almost always in my registry. I delete those when I see them too. Thanks!
Hi Siggyx,

Here's the latest~~ Thanks!

OK this will take some time on your part and you will need to be careful all the way through.

I had you download Killbox. This is a tool that will kill any file that is running on your system. I mean any file so if it is not done correctly you could have serious problems. The way that it works is that you put in the path to the file that you want to delete and then kill that file. i.e C:/windows/system32/XXXXXXX

You will need to make sure that all hidden file are visable as you will need to do a search for all of the files I identify and then put the path into killbox ONE AT A TIME. The bad files may be hiding in multiple locations so when you search for the file name you will need to make sure that you kill all instances of that file.

Below is a list of the bad files that need to be killed. Remember they may be in multiple paths so you need to get them all one at a time.

rxxhost.exe
msnmsgxr.exe

C:\WINDOWS\System32\njwlfx.exe << winmon32.exe
w32usb2.exe
winprocessor.exe
winupdater.exe
sysprocessor.exe
wmplayer.exe
csrs.exe
Microsoftx.exe
winu32.exe
win32x.exe
sysentry32.exe
lsasser.exe

I also need to warn you to be careful as some of these are named almost like the legitimate file so make sure that when you search that the file name is as above.

IF AT ANYTIME YOU ARE NOT SURE OR NOT COMFORTABLE PLEASE POST BACK.

Reboot when complete and post a new log.
Siggyx,

I'm having some trouble. I've searched for the file names, and can't find any of them. The only file I was able to find was wmplayer.exe, and when I tried to kill it, I got a message saying it was unable to kill it. No reason, just that it couldn't be done. I've searched for parts of the names too, but still no luck. I put the path C:\WINDOWS\System32\njwlfx.exe into killbox and it couldn't find it. I looked for it myself, and sure enough, it wasn't there. I can see it in the Hijack log, but can't find it anywhere else. I've checked and recheck to make sure I have hidden files visable, and they are. What could I possibly be doing wrong?

Here's the latest log, but I have a feeling it's the same as the last one. THANKS!!

Ok may have the answer. You need to uninstall Adwatch. This may be correcting the changes we are making. Once we are done you can reinstall it.

Ok boot to safe mode, open task manager(ctrl/alt/del) and stop process on these files if running.

rxxhost.exe
msnmsgxr.exe
njwlfx.exe
winmon32.exe
w32usb2.exe
winprocessor.exe
winupdater.exe
sysprocessor.exe
wmplayer.exe
csrs.exe
Microsoftx.exe
winu32.exe
win32x.exe
sysentry32.exe
lsasser.exe

Then while still in safe mode scan with hijackthis nad put a check beside these lines and choose FIX.

Hi renenic,
I will be taking over for Siggyx as he is gone for a few days. I have reviewed the entire thread and have noticed a few things that need to be changed before we go any farther.

Step#1

Spyware Guard, AdWatch, the resident portions of Spybot and Ad-Aware need all to be stopped from running as having these running can prevent the fix from working. Please go into each program and stop them from running at startup and also stop them from monitoring your system. The other thing that may be causing a problem when you are attempting to do a AV scan is the fact that you have Norton AV active on your system which may be causing a conflict between the Online AV scanner and NAV and preventing the fix.

Step#2

Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. When HJT fixes anything, it makes backups of the original files in the folder it's in. When being run from the Zip as you are doing, it cannot make backups that will be accessible if needed to fix a problem.(the backup files are DELETED), Those backups would be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

1. Please go to you're 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder 'HJT'.

2. Move HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

2. Download Hijackthis to the new folder from this website: http://www.downloads.subratam.org/hijackthis.zip

3. Double Click on 'HijackThis.zip' and install HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

Step#3

Please stop the resident portion of NAV so that it isn't running constantly and then
I would like you to try to run a couple of AV scans again before Posting a new HJT log file. Please go to at least two of the following Online AV scanners and let them run and fix anything they find:

Panda AV Online Scan
Housecall Trend Micro AV Scan
Bitdefender AV scan
eTrust AV web scanner(Computer Associates)

RE-Enable your NAV now

Step#4

There is an infection that we are seeing frequently these days and it installs a hidden dll and then reinstalls itself on a regular basis until we find and delete the hidden dll. I would like you to run this program to see if by any chance you have a hidden dll even though the log does not look like the ones with a hidden dll.

1. Please download DllCompare
( The Screenshot will show you how the program will look when it starts.)

2. Start the Program with its default settings and put a check mark in the include subdirectories. Click the Run Locate.com and wait until the scan says complete.

3. Click the Compare button to start the next process.

4. Files in the upper portion have been verified to "exist", Files in the bottom section were not able to be accessed. Very few files should be listed in the bottom section when the Compare scan is complete.

5. Click on each of the listed entries in the lower section to select them. Right-click on the file and use the Option Rescan screenshot.

6. This will cause Windows Find to see if the file does exist, and then it will be removed from the list (to reduce the number of identified files) screenshot

7. Click the Make a Log of what was found button, and post the log here in this thread using Add Reply to receive further instructions.

Step#5

1.Scan again with HJT

2. POST a new log file here in this thread.
dgosling,

Hi and thanks for your help. I followed all of the steps and ran the online virus scans a few times just to be sure. When I ran Locate.com, I kept getting this error message: 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Chose 'Close' to terminate the application. I tried both to close and ignore the message, but neither way allowed me to continue running the program. I clicked Compare on the off chance it worked anyway, but no luck.

Here is the latest Hijack This log:

I have seen that same error once recently and I think the malware is now finding a way to disable it - (this happens often with differnet types of malware). There is
an alternate way of finding a hidden DLL, please do the following

These steps will produce a file in notepad that appears to contain gibberish. Please post it all back here.

1. Please Copy the contents of the quote box to Notepad.

Reg save "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows" windows1.hiv
ren windows1.hiv windows.txt

2. Save the notepad file as *All Files* with the name the file Appinit.bat
on the Desktop.

3. Double-click on Appinit.bat

4. This will create a file on the desktop named windows.txt

5. Please post the entire contents of Windows.txt to this thread using 'Add Reply'.

I will give you instructions once you post that text file
dgosling, I'm so glad you warned me it looks like gibberish! Here are the contents: regf Pugf hbin ¨ÿÿÿnk, °9µ"Ðþ ÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ° x ÿÿÿÿ 0 e r Windows ÿÿÿsk x x Ô „¸ È ¤ ! € ! ? ? Unfortunately it didn't show what I had hoped it would. I think we may be dealing with a new variant of the spyware but that doesn't mean we can't fix it. (I say this because of the error messages you are receiving and know we have several new ones at the moment with the same error)

One question are you the only person using this PC or are there other accounts on it? If there are other accounts then each one will need to be diagnosed and cleaned before the computer is completely clean. If there is more than one Account please post a separate HijackThis log for each account so we can see where the infection is hiding.

Step#1

I would like you to scan again with Trojan Hunter following the instructions by Siggyx earlier and letting it fix everything it finds.

Step#2

There is a major security hole in Windows that was built in to the OS so that Administrators on a network could keep in touch with the computers/people working for them with popup messages. No one else needs this function unless they want to send messages to their other computers (a small grey popup box called Windows Messenger). This messenger has nothing to do with the function of Instant Messenger programs but is used by the spyware creators to control a computer. It is recommended that this service be disabled because it leaves a large vulnerability when running. To disable it:
Go to Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services. In the right hand pane find Messenger in the list of services. Choose the Stop button. Then in the drop-down menu choose disabled. Then go to the Login tab and in the box highlight each profile and choose disable Click OK, and close each window in order
Then REBOOT
The messenger service will no longer be available to the spyware and I will now remove the lines in HJT that relate to it . Please note that all Instant Messenger products will function as before.

Step#3

Please open Task Manager with Ctrl-Alt-Del and END TASK on the following file:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\spider.exe

Step#4
