i have virus, trojan, spyware, adware, etc problems. i have run my spybot, ad-aware and mcafee virus scans and still have problems… below is my hijackthis logfile… please help… thanks

If Wintools resists: Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Wintools

Right button click on Wintools folder icon and uncheck Read-only box. Click on Advanced tab and see if there is a security tab. Go in it and check all boxes to give you permissions over that folder.

Do the same if there is a Temp subfolder under WinTools.

Now right button click on Wintools folder and delete.

Exit Explorer and empty the Recycle Bin.

Reboot in normal mode Windows and run Disk Cleanup: type cleanmgr at Start/Run. Scan all hard drives and check all categories at the end and click OK.

Next…download and run these two programs (Spybot S&D and Adaware) at the link below. Use Spybot first.

Most of the Internet baddies can be killed by a one-two punch with Spybot and Adaware assuming these three factors are achieved:

1. Latest version
2. Configured correctly for running options
3. New definitions from update feature

Please download the latest Adaware which is called SE edition and Spybot 1.3.

Next, reboot a final time and browse a bit, exit IE 6 and post a new Hijackthis log in this thread. Please do this even if you feel it is clean as this is beneficial for our classroom trainees and future researchers. Your help is appreciated.


Special Comments: After the final all clear is given by us you should flush your Restore Points for XP. That means disabling the Restore Point, rebooting to flush it, then re-enabling a new Restore Point. The reason why we need to do this is to purge the bad files hidden in System Restore which can't be cleaned by your antivirus programs.

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings here:

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.
(I am waiting until they get the bugs out of SP2 for XP before I upgrade)
