Explorer Invalid Page Msvcrt.dll

trying to fix niece pc. when launching IE6 getting "explorer has caused invalid page fault in msvcrt.dll". The says to restart PC then closes IE6. I have ran HJT,spybot, adaware and fix errors but still having problem. Win98. I have tried some of the solutions with Microsoft but nothing. I have updated IE6 and Win98. I even reinstalled IE6. I am grasping for straws and pretty soon air. thanks and have a greatttttttttttt day.
