I am used to mechanical things aging and wearing out, but to my surprise, Ultra Video Splitter is showing symptoms of wear and tear. Moreover, after uninstalling it as thoroughly as I could (using both Revo and IObit), and then re-installing it, the situation has NOT improved. As evidence that uninstall was not thorough enough - I noticed that Ultra had remembered my preferred destination path. What can be happening; and is there a remedy ?

Software does not wear out. What happens is operating systems, industry protocols and security standards, and hardware technologies change and advance. If the software developer fails to keep the software updated and current to ensure support and compatibility with those changes and advances, the software becomes obsolete.

This happens because the developer loses interest, goes out of business, or simply wants their customers to buy their latest products.

Considering it appears the most current version of that software came out 6 years ago, does not support W10 (or even W8) and the developer's website does not even support secure protocols (it still uses http instead of https), I would say development has stopped.

The proper remedy, IMO, is to abandon Ultra Video Splitter and find an alternative product for your needs. I know this can be disappointing when the software has become a favorite, but it really is just a fact of life for computer users.

As evidence that uninstall was not thorough enough - I noticed that Ultra had remembered my preferred destination path.

That's not really evidence of anything significant. It simply means there is still an entry (a harmless entry) in the Registry, telling Windows where that product was installed. Personally, I never use and don't recommend the use of aftermarket uninstallers like Revo and IObit. It typically is best to just uninstall through Windows own Control Panel applet, or via the product's own uninstaller.

Thank you. I had already started using a different Splitter, but was interested in the UNLIKELY phenomenon of wear & tear - which you have explained well.
