Sold wireless router forgot to rest factory settings, is this dangerou

Hello,

 

I sold a linksys wireless g router today but then recalled I forgot to reset the factory settings. Am I in any danger becasue of this?

No you are safe though the person you sold it too may be unhappy they don't know the password to access the admin menu.

 

Unless the passwords you used before are something simple to guess, they will have to reset the router and that will wipe everything out anyway.

 

And besides, when they connect that router up to their network, the router will have get a new IP address from their gateway device (likely their modem) and will have to assign new IP addresses to their own connected devices. So again, your old data will lost.

 

Just for your own peace of mind, you might want to make sure your current router uses a different admin password and different wifi passphrase (if applicable) than the old Linksys.

Thank you so much Digerati. I do know I have a different password on my Comcast wi-fi modem but will check on the passphrase,

That is probably the more important one - especially if you sold your old router locally and they know where you live. Because if they did somehow learn your passphrase (not likely, but if they did) then they could sit in a car out front of your house and use your wifi access to send spam, porn or malware from your account. That would not be good.
