The question may sound stupid, but can a facebook account contain virus/malware, that can infect your device? My facebook account was hijacked (i suspect who did it) he also hijacked my email. After a few days i managed to get it back, i changed the password and also changed the email. I checked for any suspicious apps that are running on my account and just to be sure i removed them all. Now since i bough new phone today i want to log in though it but i want to know if its possible my phone to get infected by simply logging to my account?

Thanks

:welcome:

The Facebook app on your phone is safe, but its what you click on with the app open could cause you problems. As an example , a few months ago there was a popular GIF going around ( cant remember which one ) and if you clicked on it you could have infected your phone and or your computer.  So just be careful what click on on Facebook on both your phone and your computer

You can also install Malwarebytes Mobile Free, it will help protect your phone . It will let you run scans to check for malware and it will also check any new apps that you installed to see if there ok , and its free.

I would install Malwarebytes Mobile first so if there is a issue with Facebook or any other app that you install it will block them  from installing

Thanks very much for the help ken :) Yes i have both malwarebytes and avg and i scan regulary, i will also install them on my new phone once i buy it. I understand you need to tap on a link in order to infect yourself, but in this case my account was hijacked and i now recovered it, if the account was already infected somehow, can it infect my phone if i simply log in to it? Also, what measures should i take to check if anything is wrong with the account- except checking my active apps?

Thanks again :)

Go into your Facebook account and change your password. Then when you install Malwarebytes Mobile before installing FB, MBM will scan new apps that you install and check to see if there infected or not. You didnt say what phone your getting, if its a iPhone most likely your ok and most infections target windows and Droids. Do you have FB on the phone your using now, if so how is it working for you ?? You may want to consider installing Malwarebytes Mobile on your current phone and see if it picks up any infections

Ken, i am currently using Xperia Z5 but i am planning to buy Iphone 7 (maybe Plus) in the next couple of weeks. Both my email and facebook passwords were changed (i suspect it was personal, someone i knew who may have known my password), then next day i managed to regain my email and than regained facebook as well. I changed both passwords and checked for any apps on my facebook (nothing suspicious, but still i disabled them all. I did that through my laptop than i logged in through my XPeria and no problems so far. Neighter malwawrebytes nor avg showed anything suspicious. So when i buy the new phone i will first install malwarebytes, some antivirus program and than log to facebook :?
