HP EliteBook 840 G1 running Win 7 Pro SP1 64 Bit
Per last entry in malware forum, uninstalled KB3022345.
Running sfc again to see if it's any better.
Laptop takes a long time to return control to the operator after booting. Also, it sometimes just goes to sleep, not responding in reasonable amount of time to user input, e.g., launching Chrome.
Am now running Avast's free virus protection.
Now wondering if the problem has to do with hibernation and/or going to screen saver during inactivity.
Laptop is now stuck at screen saver, after I launched sfc a few minutes ago.
And now I have control again. Weird.
Only way to keep the laptop responsive is to boot it in Safe Mode with Networking.
sfc/scannow didn't seem to fix anything.
What now?
