I recently had to recover all files from a 2TB that had the partition information "cleaned".  It wasn't formatted.  I used Data Rescue PC3, ran the thorough scan, all of the directories had an "excellent" tag on them indicating that they were very likely going to come out OK.

After opening up the drive and looking around, everything seems to be as it was, but many of the video files have a .v1 file with the original.  For example:  "MovieTitle2004.mkv"  will have "MovieTitle2004.mkv.v1" right beneath it.  In some cases an HD rip will have .v1, .v2, .v3, .v4.

The .v1 files are showing as unrecognizable, it only seems to do it with .mkv's, but not all of them.  Google says its an 'Unknown Apple II file'.  I'd really like to know if I can remove them without affecting playback or seeding the files.

This is my first recovery, sorry for vagueness.

at a guess i'd say the v1 files are temp/copy files made when the .mkv files where created, i'd be surprised if deleting them made any difference to the playback/useability of the mkv files but as always the thing to do is rename the v1 files or/and move them to another location then test the mkv file. if the mkv file plays without problems then yes i'd say it's safe to delete the v1 copies of the original mkv files.
