Is it normal for case fans in computers to be a bit noisy at start up but then after a while the noisiness goes away and operation is virtually silent?  That what my local computer store tells me when I had complained about the noisiness of the fans at start up in a new computer that I had just bought.

yes and no, it means the fan/bearing is either old and worn or the fans are just cheap and not very good in the first place.

what happens is until the fan can get to top speed and the pressures/forces finally equalise, the fan wobbles and makes the noises your hearing.

if they are that annoying and the shop won't change them then you can always buy replacements yourself.
