Hi healthy1, and welcome to the WTT forums.

Have you tried setting up a new user account? ......as a corrupted user profile can cause these sorts of problems.

Not sure what you are referring to in:

from unprotected account

Please advise

Hi paws,

Thanks for your quick response.

Unprotected account is a standard guest account not admin account (no password).

The problem is with the admin account which can not be accessed because of the missing file, well that is the error message.

Can not access anything requiring the admin password.

No other accounts have been implemented recently but this is serious enough to make word files for our local council unavailable. The PC is our Clerks PC. I have tried all I know to bypass the problem but the UAC is having none of it!!!!

Any ideas?

Try booting to Recovery and enabling the hidden Administrator account from Command Prompt.

See here: http://sytempropertiesprotection.exe

From the Command Prompt, enter:  net user administrator /active:yes

Reboot to safe mode by pressing F8 during boot. Login as Administrator, no password.

Create a new Administrator level account.

Reboot and login as the new account and see how things are. If okay you can copy everything from the old account to the new account.
