Hi u were recomended to me by one of your members

I have bought a media player so I can use external drive on my tv (came without usb in)

It seems I have an option to connect to internet via my router?

How do I do this? I have three spare Ethernet ports on my router

Can I just run a erthenet cable from player to router and settings etc will be detected ?

Thank you

Yep, from what I can see yes, just plug it in and off you go, there should be no "settings" as such, think of connecting your PC, if using Ethernet you just plug it in and it takes you online (assuming drivers etc. are correct), but if you connect wirelessly, then you need to input some details, but a cable does not need that.

Now whether there are settings within the unit, that are to do with setting up certain elements it may require to get the right service I can't say, but if it did need more input from the user before being able to do certain things, I would expect it to walk the user through what it needs via a wizard, but I wouldn't of thought it needs anything but a cable plugged in, give it a try and see how you go, the Ethernet  goes in port 7 on the image you have uploaded, hope this helps.

TBH I have no idea about such sites, the only one I recall is Netflix, and that's only because they play it on so many adverts, so best advice I have is to Google it, there are other big names, but I can't recall them, but most give a free trial I believe to see if you like it before committing to it, sorry I can't add more than that, but hope it helps a bit anyway.

Thank you

I did Google and found some but unsure how "safe" the content may be

Will go with Netflix

Not a problem just that I have an option now to stream......A bonus for me as all I wanted was to be able to view my external HD on bedroom tv.

There are obviously many such sites around these days, and as you say it's not always clear which are good or bad, but MoneySavingExpert lists a few such sites, a tool that helps warn of questionable sites is WOT (Web of Trust), it's a basic traffic light system that attaches to your browser, it is not a replacement for common sense etc., but it can show things you may not have been aware of, but it's not always the site directly that causes warnings, sometimes a page can contain a link(s) to other sites that could be bad.

But when looking for something you have no idea about, the best way to go is search about it, so just like Google gave you results for streaming sites, Google for reviews of each site that interests you, that should help a lot in deciding which the good and the bad are, it also goes deeper, it will also show you the sites reputation that way, just because the site may be a "safe" site from any nasty's, it doesn't mean their customer service isn't bad, another thing to help, any site\download wanting to load a toolbar, you need to ask why, often it's a 3rd party tool that they get paid for installing, anything like that you do not want, so watch out for those tick boxes when installing, hope this gets you on the right track anyway.
