Hello i am sure i read somewhere that Windows 8 has it's own security system :ie the Defender which would mean you don't need a security system , am i right
Yes, Defender is built into Windows 8 and workw well. I use it and Malware Bytes Anti Malware Pro, nothing else.
I'm sure you'll get other opinions though
I use it and Malware Bytes Anti Malware Pro, nothing else.
Except a firewall, right?
I use the same, WD (formally called MSE), MBAM for supplemental, verification scans, and Windows Firewall (also built in and fully capable). Also, being behind a router (even if only one computer on your network) provides a HUGE layer of security.
But of course, the user is, and always will be the weakest link in security. No security can protect you if you open the door and let the badguy in. So it is still up to you to keep Windows and your security programs fully updated, and you avoid risky behavior like participating in illegal file sharing via torrents or P2P sites, or by being "click-happy" on unsolicited downloads, attachments, or links.
