ok I just saw your most recent reply. I uninstalled and reinstalled Java but no effect. Should I try to restore to a previous restore point from yesterday and run all the steps again except for the java ones, or will that not restore the old Java files?
No we don't want to go back to an earlier Restore Point because some of the infections are there as well. Let me do some digging and see what we can come up with. I will return as quickly as I can. :)
  • If you are able, uninstall all previous versions of Java in add/remove programs in your control panel.
  • Next, you may download the current version of Java here: http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
  • I recommend that you use the offline installer version.
  • Now, download the fix: fixjava.zip ( 336bytes )
Open the fixjava.zip file, extract and run the file fixjava.bat.
If you are using Windows Vista, or Windows 7 you must right-click the fixjava.bat file and choose "Run As Administrator". If you do not see the run as administrator option, drag the fixjava.bat file to your desktop and then try to run as administrator from there.
  • The batch file will run briefly without confirmation.
You may now install Java without any errors about it already being installed.

See if that fixes up your problem with Java. :)
I have tried every option I can think of to downtload the fixjava app, but the link in this post takes me to

http://forums.whatthetech.com/index.php?ac…ost&id=7137

where I see the message:

Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information.
The error returned was:

Sorry, but you do not have permission to use this feature. If you are not logged in, you may do so using the form below if available.
