lately i've been getting some blue screen crashes, usually when i try and recover from sleep mode. the error i get is apc_index_mismatch or something to that effect. was wondering if i could get some help please and thank you ^.^
Hi Pirus504,
Sorry to hear of the blue screen error. The exact error message that you get is always helpful in determining a strategy to repair your computer…
In the meantime run chkdsk with the r switch from a command prompt with elevated privileges (right click and select "Run as Administrator") the syntax for the command is:
chkdsk /r
note the space it needs to be there.
Exclusive access will be required so select YES and reboot
do not interrupt chkdsk once it has started it may take an hour or two….. allow it continue all 5 passes… it will reboot your computer once its finished.
When your machine restarts, then run the Windows Protected System File checker SFC
here is the command:
sfc /scannow
note the space it needs to be there.
see if that helps

so still getting freezes so while things are better. something is still wrong. also, my laptop has been giving me this message lately "No amd graphics driver is installed or the amd driver is not working properly. please install the amd driver appropriate for your system" already installed the most up to date driver and i'm still getting this. is there anything i can do about it?
Hi Pirus504, Glad to hear that things are running a little better.
Let's see if we can improve things further
How does it behave if you boot to Safe Mode with Networking? If better then something is starting at boot that is causing the problem.
Advanced startup options - Windows 7 link follows
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows…er-in-safe-mode
Use msconfig to determine what is causing the problem
How to use msconfig in Windows 7
Click on Start then Run, type msconfig and press Enter.
Click on the Startup tab, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Reboot and see if it runs better.
If yes then use msconfig to enable several items at a time till you find the culprit.
If no, start msconfig and click on the Services tab.
Check the Hide All Microsoft Services box, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Again, do a normal boot, see if it runs OK.
If yes then use msconfig to enable services till you find the culprit.
Once you've found the culprit, uninstall it or post back with your findings. Simply disabling it in msconfig is a temporary fix at best.
Enable everything else you disabled.

ok so its hard to tell if things are working or not because i don't know how long i'll go before i get another blue screen error (i got one almost as soon as i started up this last time but other times i can be fine for hours before it happens) so stopping all those processes one at a time is going to be a pain. before i do that, i'll post the list of start up applications and if you could tell me which ones are suspicious i'll start with those first to try and save time.
HD audio control panal
skytel
dell wireless wlancard wireless network tray applet
linksys wireless manager
microsoft windows operating system
epson status monitor 3
pando media booster
icon utility
cyberlink dvd
dell support center updates
Mcafee security center
adobe reader and acrobat manager
Eevent manager
pure networks platform
java platform se auto updater 2 0
dell dock
spyware guard
that's it under start up
so stopping all those processes one at a time is going to be a pain.
It may take a while, but there are no easy short cuts here….
It's not usually a question of selecting an unwanted application/process…….. all the processes should work OK….. you have to find the one or ones that dont, (corrupted version, damaged dll etc) and the way described should get you there.
It was interesting that SFC found some problems….. it indicates that important Windows protected System files were either missing, corrupted, or in an incorrect location….. it's good that it has fixed them but now it would be wise to reboot and run it again….. anything else found……?
Whilst you are considering your next step it might be wise to do a further check on the integrity and correct working of your hard drive……
Take a look here:
http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287
and try the appropriate disc checking utility.
Do the quick test first and if that is OK then the long test (you can skip the acoustic test)
See how you go

I notice you recently updated your AMD display driver as I use Catalyst drivers too. The latest 5 and 6 series drivers (and possibly others) are causing various problems from blue screening to in my case, explorer not working and all the various problems that can cause, to no sound or no video in windows media player etc. etc.
Some users seem to have fixed the issue by disabling AMD External Events Utility in services. or at least setting it to manual.
My personal fix though was rolling back my display driver to the non-buggy version I had previously.
AMD External Events Utility is not needed unless you use hot keys.
ok running sfc scan again. will post back when its done. as for the graphics driver problem, that is for my laptop whereas the original problem is for my desktop (the graphics driver thing was noticed when i was on my laptop working to fix my original problem. when it rains it pours -.-). the good news is i fixed the graphic driver problem so thats no longer an issue but i appreciate the help just the same.
