Looks like ad.trafficmp can be used as a way to track Google Adwords and SEO marketing too. Not so sure about it's legitimacy or how it comes about but it can be done.

Here's a way you should be able to block the pop up windows (and thus the tracking). You'll need to do this for each of the 2 pop-up windows you are getting. Let me know if this stops them.

Blocking Pop-Up Windows Using Internet Explorer Settings
  • Right-click on (a preferably blank area of) a pop-up ad.
  • Choose Properties to obtain the server hostname.
Note: You don't need to copy the information after the end of the hostname.
For example, for this pop-up the server hostname is http://ad.trafficmp.com

  • Choose Tools > Internet Options in Internet Explorer and click on the Security tab.
  • Click on the Restricted sites icon, then click the Sites button.

  • Type the pop-up's web address in the Add this Web site to the Zone box and click the Add button.
You may enter more than one site here.

  • When you are done, click OK to close this and other windows.
Tried the security thing and may not be doing it correctly. When I try the Kia site I'm getting 3 windows This is the address of 1 of the windows
res://ieframe.dll/navcancl.htm#http://ad.trafficmp.com/a/ct?adv=758&ca=
I added http://ad.trafficmp.com to the restricted site but it still creeps in. Added the full name and it converts to about window
This is what I'm getting

Started looking at the Kia Source html and there are indications that stats are being fed to Adobe but from what I can gather the option is set to false although the scripts are present. Google analeptics is involved somehow.

I also looked at the setting for the flash player and added Kia to a number of categories, rebooted and of course did not work.

At this point looking I also reinstalled Flash.

At least I know whats NOT causing the problem but I can't rest easy because other sites might start popping up.
I believe you indicated you updated your version of Flash recently if I remember correctly. Did you have this problem with previous versions of Flash?
I think I was ok with the previous versions and assume it started with the new Flash. As of October 4th I was able to access the Kia site since my extraction dates are at that date. I don't do these sites every day and it was a few weeks later when I noticed the problem. I had updated Flash then. The laptops I use also have the same flash version numbers but use a different version of windows I have XP I appreciate your efforts. Don't know if you're in harms way due to the storm but if so, hunker down for the night. Going for Dinner, talk later
Download Revo Uninstaller

  • Right Click the Icon then choose Uninstall.
  • Click yes to the warning and choose the Uninstall Mode
  • Choose the Advanced option and then click Next.
  • This will launch the programs built in uninstaller. Be patient it can take several seconds.
  • Once the uninstaller is done click Next.
  • Revo Uninstaller will now scan for leftover information. Be patient it can take several seconds.
  • Once this scan is done click Next.
  • You will then be presented of the leftover entries found by Revo Uninstaller
  • Look at ALL of the entries to ensure they relate to the uninstall.
  • Next click Select All > Delete to remove the entries.
  • Click Next.
  • If there are any program file folders left over you will be presented with a list to be removed.
  • Again look at ALL of the entries to ensure they are related to the uninstall.
  • Click Select All > Delete to remove the entries.
  • Click Finish to go back to the uninstall list.
  • Close the program

The go to Flash Player Archive and select the previous version and try installing it and seeing if that helps. The worst that happens is that the behavior continues, in which case you can upgrade to the current version again.

The storm is about to make landfall a little to our north, and the worst is about to start hitting. So far so good though. Power hasn't flickered here (yet), internet is holding on for now. Lots of wind and rain - but from here on in until tomorrow morning will be the fun part :) At least we are south of the worst of it, but with the magnitude of this storm we are still going to get a bit of a beating. But we don't appear to be the ones going to get the worst of it thank goodness.
I will give this a shot tomorrow since Doing this before going to bed doesn't guarantee a nights sleep I was also thinking of reinstalling IE8. I have to remove IE8 first and as I remember i will then revert to my previous browser (hopefully) Then I can reinstall IE8 The laptop uses Windows XP home Edition 5.1, service pack 3 We occasionally get power failures here and on some websites like facebook and Yahoo I get slowdown of IE8. I may have a corrupted file thats contributing to this whole mess. Straws, straws etc. I used to be good at debugging, eliminating the obvious and drilling down to the core issues but this is a puzzler.
Have you considered using Chrome? IE is not my favorite of browsers because it can get very slow and buggy. I find that Chrome is a lot faster and has a lot less issues. Let's try going into Internet Explorer > Tools > Advanced tab and click on the Reset tab. You shouldn't need to uninstall and all that. This should reset you to default settings first. See if that helps before you go to the drastic lengths of uninstalling and reinstalling.
I appreciate the tenacity, you're like I was when I was younger. I once spent 2 weeks reconstructing the database keys of a corrupted file and the admin said it could'n't be done. History lesson over I didn't do the Flash uninstall yet. My daughters birthday is today and with going out and coming back for cake I won't have the energy. Here's what I've done so far Checked so far Thought Norton may be culprit so disabled firewall etc and tried connect with same results. Checked internet options (Security and advanced) and compared to laptops. They are same. Thought that my quest was to block or prevent this file from executing and wondered if I was looking at this wrong. Laptops are probably Allowing the file to run and my system is probably blocking it. Could this be the answer Strange dreams at night, sub-conscious working overtime. Now I reexamined the Flash player in Control Panel and selected the advanced tab. I saw a Check now button for updates and selected that. That brought up the adobe Flash player screen and I saw in the right hand column under support "Settings manager" Apparently there's a console within adobe that allows you to set, modify setting on your local machine. They seem to be similar to the flash but with some extras It seems the changes that can be made are similar to but different than the ones in Flash player. I will try your suggestion about the reset. Relatives in Jersey are getting hit hard. They just moved back from Florida and the hurricanes followed them Karma I printed out your flash uninstall but the Adobe site also has an uninstall. Different ????
Revouninstaller is a free program that will look for leftover registry entries, files and folders when you uninstall a program. I use it when I want to be sure I get a "clean" uninstall. Since "normal" uninstalls leave leftovers (like registry entries) I usually use Revo to make sure those are cleared out before reinstalling an older version to be on the safe side. And yes, I am tenacious. I once spent over 100 hours trying to figure out why iTunes wouldn't load properly on just one of my machines. It was more a matter of "geek pride" than anything else. I rare even use iTunes but the point was it used to work and then it stopped unexpectedly for no apparent reason (much like your Kia site). I hate to give up. There is usually a reason and I don't like it when I can't find out why. And when there are tracking cookies or malware involved I'm especially loathe to give in. I very rarely give in unless you get tired of trying things with me or unless we were to determine that it were in the best interest to reformat (which in this case it most clearly is not). So as long as you are willing to continue on with me, I will not give up until we figure out where this stems from. Go have fun tonight. We don't have to solve this on a night when you have other things to do. Sometimes a night away may relieve some of your stress about it and may also give us both some other ideas about where this stemmed from or ways to attack it! I hope your family is ok and my thoughts are with them. We fared well here with just heavy rain and high wind. Barely a power flicker so we got off very easy. My prayers will be with your family in Jersey as the storm moves northward.
A kindred spirit. I will take you up on the night off and get back the following day. It's gnawing at me and I do need a respite. It's like a lost cat, you hunt for her and then a few days go by and she shows up (Little tramp) Catch you later and I'll keep logs going on trials Thanks
Did the Flash uninstall with heart palpitations and went well. But looking at the archice the previous version is 10.2.183.22 and this is a zip file containing stuff for developers to test. My version is Winax.exe. Unzip and execute????, what about other Winax files there.
If you scroll down below the chart on the archives page to the Flash Player Archives I'd go for the option: (I've linked the download here for you)
•(Released 10/8/2012) Flash Player 10.3.183.29 (67.3 MB)

See how that one works. You can always upgrade to the most recent version again if that doesn't work.
Encouraging issue. I tried the Kia site after rebooting and it came up but gave a message saying Flash required. Got a feeling we are close, stuff I hadn't seen before showed.
