Having problems with just 1 specific web site WWW.Kia.Com and I am getting errors related to ad.trafficmp. I tried on other laptops and can access this site but not on my desktop. I use manynational car dealer sites for images for a web provider.
I use IE8 and have run full system scans, Registry cleanup, defrag and optimaztion. I also reset my modem and router.

Getting messages "Couldn't Find "http://ad.trafficmp.com/a/ct%3Fadv%3D758" and it also opened 2 additional tabs saying "Navigation Cancelled"

Thanks in advance
Jack

Hello and Posted Image

My name is patndoris. I will be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. It will be very helpful if you follow these guidelines:
  • Malware logs are often lengthy and can take a lot of time to research and interpret. Please be patient while I review your logs.
  • Please note that there is no "Quick Fix" to modern malware infections and we may need to use several different approaches to get your system clean.
  • Please make sure to carefully read any instruction that I give you. If you're not sure, or if something unexpected happens, do NOT continue! Stop and ask!
  • Please follow my instructions carefully and in the order they are posted. You may also find it helpful to print out the instructions you receive.
  • Please do not run any scans or install/uninstall any applications or delete anything without being directed to do so.
  • Remember, absence of symptoms does not mean the infection is all gone. Please stick with me till you're given the "all clear".
  • Please do not use the Attachment feature for any log file. Do a Copy/Paste of the entire contents of the log file and submit it inside your post.
  • Please reply within 3 days. If I do not hear back from you in that time frame, I will post a reminder for you. Topics with no reply in 4 days are closed!

HijackThis has largely been replaced by other tools. Since being acquired by TrendMicro, HijackThis has not been regularly updated. Many infections are now able to hide partly, or completely from a HijackThis scan. DDS includes all the scan locations of HijackThis and more.

Download and Run DDS by sUBs

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
    • DDS.com
    • DDS.pif
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

Please read carefully and follow these steps. There is a difference between what you see in one of the images below and what I need you to do.
We are only creating a log - I do NOT want you to "cure" or try to fix anything in this step. It is very important that you don't choose Cure when presented with that option.

  • Download TDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.
  • Extract its contents to your desktop.
  • Once extracted, open the TDSSKiller folder and doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then on Start Scan.

🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image)

  • If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure but I want you to choose SKIP instead , click on Continue.

🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image)

  • If a suspicious file is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.

🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image)

  • It may ask you to reboot the computer to complete the process. Click on Reboot Now.

🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image)

  • If no reboot is require, click on Report. A log file should appear. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
  • If a reboot is required, the report can also be found in your root directory, (usually C:\ folder) in the form of "TDSSKiller.[Version]_[Date]_[Time]_log.txt". Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.

Just to let you know, I'm in one of the many predicted paths of the Frankenstorm Sandy that's coming, so if I don't respond right away to any posts you may put up in the next couple of days it is likely the result of power outages (which could take a couple of days to get back). They are saying we could start experiencing wind and rain any time from this afternoon, with the worst coming tomorrow. I'm crossing my fingers we don't lose power but one never knows. So I just wanted to let you know it wouldn't be because I was ignoring you :) Please be patient and I promise if that happens I will be back with you as soon as possible. For the remainder of today, I will certainly be monitoring posts and getting back with you as quickly as possible :D

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

[external image: Posted Image]
  • Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
Notes:
1. 1. Do not mouse-click anywhere on the screen while it is running. That may cause it to stall. In fact, I suggest you do not do anything else on the computer while Combofix is running as it can cause it to stall. It may appear at times that it isn't doing anything but it is. Just let it run. It may also reboot the machine as a part of what it is doing and that is not unusual. (If your computer requires a login then you WILL need to fill in the login/password for it to continue. If your computer does not have a login then it will continue on it's own..) Then, just sit tight until it finishes. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes, sometimes it takes an hour. Just be patient until the log pops up. If it takes more than an hour and doesn't appear to be doing antying, you can stop it and come back and let me know.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

If you have a problem launching programs after running Combofix, please do not panic! Simply reboot the computer and all should be fine.
Here's the combo fix - kind of scary - Hope system still functions

The log may look scary to you, but really it's not so bad. It looks like you may have had some previous infections that your antivirus may have removed, and there may have been some leftovers hanging around. The script below is actually to remove some additional leftovers, not to remove an active infection. Since we know there are leftovers, it's best to get rid of them.

I normally would break this down into 2 different steps (1 for the script and one for the additional 2 scans, but with the storm coming, and since you seem more than capable of following the instructions) I figured we'd see if we could get this finished up before the storm hits with any luck. You can post the results as you get them or all at once, whatever is easier for you.

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

This scan make take awhile depending on how many items are on the computer. You may want to run it at a time you won't be needing the machine. It should be run from IE and I'd recommend not doing anything else while it's running.

Go here to run an online scannner from ESET.
  • Note: For browsers other than Internet Explorer, you will need to download and install esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe. Click on it and save the file to a convenient location. Double click on it to install and a new window will open.
  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activex control to install
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is unticked and the Scan Archives option is ticked.
  • Click on Advanced Settings, ensure the options Scan for potentially unwanted applications, Scan for potentially unsafe applications, and Enable Anti-Stealth Technology are ticked.
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\Eset\Eset Online Scanner\log.txt
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic and also let me know how things are now.

The site giving me problems WWW. Kia.Com had been working a few weeks ago according to my logs. I mentioned trying it on available laptops and it worked but those units were being refurbished and the virus programs were out of date or disabled. I use Comcast free Norton and am satisfied with the results so far. I also recently updated my Adobe Flash to the current version. All microsoft updates are also made and I try to keep abreast of other types of updates. There are quire a few other sites that I work with and they operate basically the same as the kiA site. I have had no problems with any of them - So far. The Kia site seems to be trying to collect some data for data mining purposes and I may have a block somewhere that I don't know about. I combed Norton for something like that and nothing showed Malware Log follows Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (Trial) 1.65.1.1000 www.malwarebytes.org Database version: v2012.10.28.05 Windows XP Service Pack 3 x86 NTFS Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18702 John Conway :: D62GJM91 [administrator] Protection: Enabled 10/28/2012 2:53:06 PM mbam-log-2012-10-28 (14-53-06).txt Scan type: Quick scan Scan options enabled: Memory | Startup | Registry | File System | Heuristics/Extra | Heuristics/Shuriken | PUP | PUM Scan options disabled: P2P Objects scanned: 211958 Time elapsed: 5 minute(s), 12 second(s) Memory Processes Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Memory Modules Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Registry Keys Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Registry Values Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Registry Data Items Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Folders Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Files Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) (end) Eset was run but nothing changed. Apparently it went into an extended wait when my virus kicked back in but was at 55% level Not sure what you mean by "How things Are" Nothing hanging up and all applications seem to be ok
So the Kia site still isn't working? When I try to go to that URL I don't get any kind of data mining or any other tabs opening at all in either Chrome or IE.

Let's do some cleanup of cookies and temp files and see if that helps. Please note that this might clear out some of your saved passwords etc so if that's a problem for you, please don't use this tool. Please stop and let me know.

Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Note: Close all browsers before running ATF Cleaner: IE, FireFox, etc.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browser
  • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use Opera browser
  • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

This will NOT clear out Chrome to the best of my knowledge. If you are using Chrome as your browser of choice please let me know.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.
Ran the cleaner and still have problems

At this point I am stressed out about 200% Even had dreams about this -

Wondering if this is related to the Adobe Flash I installed which I mentioned in a previous note

A lot of the sites I deal with look for zip codes so they can direct the user to local and regional car dealers. They also compile stats on what users look at etc.
This is the only site that I'm having problems with and I even looked at the Kia Site in Canada http://www.kia.ca/
Well that cleaner should have deleted all your cookies which is what tracks you (theoretically) although there are other ways it can be done. So in theory, your first search after that should have been a clean search. Have you tried adding Kia.com to your trusted sites? What browser are you using when you are accessing the site?
I use IE8 and it's up to date with microsoft releases. It appears to me to be trying to re-direct which is scary i'll check trusted sites but don't think it will be there I even looked in both my router and modem to see if something was there but nada. There have been times (few) when I couldn't reach a site and had to unplug the router for reset. I'll think about it tonight and if a solution crops up I'll let you know. I did get rid of a lot of junk thanks to you so Thank you. Eat dinner and relax Thaks again
Let's just check and make sure it's not being redirected in the HOSTS file. I doubt it, but it's worth checking. (And I already ate dinner and this is far more relaxing to me than it is to you LOL). Open Notepad Click File | Open in Notepad and browse to: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc Make sure the etc folder is highlighted (selected). Now change the file type so it reads "All files". You should now see the HOSTS file appear in the directory list. Double-click the HOSTS file and it will open in Notepad for editing Only if you see the Kia site listed do you need to copy and paste the contents of the file here. If you don't see the Kia site listed then you can just close the file without doing anything to it and just let me know that it wasn't there. I'm doing some more research on ad.trafficmp because it should have been able to be cleared with the cookies. Have you done a lot of customizing in your Internet Explorer? If not, we can try resetting it back to default settings. That may or may not help too. Let me know - it's very easy to do.
No not there,Just my local stuff 127.0.0.1 localhost I also did a google search for Ad.Traffic and of course it brought up a few dire warnings with supposed solutions. Not realy that trusting and you guys are basically the only ones that know what you're doing Hope you had a nice dinner, Mine was take out Pizza
