  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows: OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt.
  • Note: These logs can be located in the OTL. folder on you C:\ drive if they fail to open automatically.
  • Please Copy and Paste the contents of both files in your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them both in.
hi jontom - tdss detected only the second of the two threats: 11:06:38.0937 2580 \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 - detected TDSS File System (1). i chose the delete option; log follows.

otl was downloaded and ran without issue. here are all three of the logs; they seem to have fit in one post. and thanks again!

Hello symbiosis7

one question… on OTL, do i check the "lop check" and "purity check" as before?

There is no need to check those options this time :)
hi jontom - ok, ran otl with your script. machine rebooted, log appeared. log follows. re: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\qxwjelar - it does not relate to anything i recognize. ran systemlook with your script. no problems. log follows. aswmbr downloaded an update, and ran normally. log follows. Hello symbiosis7

Thank you fror the logs.

re: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\qxwjelar - it does not relate to anything i recognize

The folder appears to be empty.

Navigate to

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\qxwjelar

Right click on the folder and select delete.

Once deleted empty your recycle bin.

Your latest aswMBR log is looking good.

Please post one last DDS scan and let me know how the machine is running now.
hi jontom - sometime during the course of this infection, my folder view settings were changed to *not* show hidden files/folders. i suppose the infection hiding itself a little more; i pretty much always have windows explorer show everything. so… changed the setting back, deleted qxwjelar, emptied the trash, and ran dds. logs follow.

the machine runs as i reported before, which is to say it's about as fast as ever. no spontaneous voices since one of our first "cure" steps, browsers operating normally & not opening random windows.

is there additional protection i should be using?

==== End Of File ===========================
Hello symbiosis7

the machine runs as i reported before, which is to say it's about as fast as ever. no spontaneous voices since one of our first "cure" steps, browsers operating normally & not opening random windows.

Good :)

Your latest logs appear to be clean

is there additional protection i should be using?

You should only ever have one real time AV and one firewall installed on your machine. Malwarebytes Antimalware (MBAM) can be kept for an "on-demand" scanner. Make sure you keep your AVG and MBAM updated and scan your machine once a week.

If you wish to change from AVG to a different AV product you will find links to trusted applications in the notes that follow.

Please work your way through the following steps:

  • Please Uninstall Combofix

    • Click on "Start" and then on "Run".
    • Now type combofix /uninstall in the run box and click "OK". Please note the space between the "x" and the "/Uninstall", it needs to be there.

  • Please perform the following cleanup procedure

    • Double click on the OTL.exe icon on your desktop to run the program.
    • Follow any prompts that you receive.

  • Removal of Tools

    • You no longer need aswMBR, MBRCheck, TDSSKiller, Rogue Killer or SystemLook. Please delete them from your machine.

  • Please update your Java

    • To update your Java, Click on "Start" then on "Control Panel" and then on the Java icon (looks like a coffee cup).
    • In the window that opens, click on the "Update" tab, and then on "Update Now".
    • Your Java should begin to update. Please follow any prompts that you receive.

Once you have completed the above steps you should be good to go! If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.

  • Finally, please take the time to read through the information provided below:

    Enhance your System Security

    • For an excellent list of free anti virus software, free online virus scanners, free spyware detection/removal and free firewalls, click here.

    • IMPORTANT! Please make sure you only have ONE firewall and ONE real-time antivirus installed on your system. When using "on demand" scanners, first update the detection signature files, then disconnect from the internet and disable your resident security program before running the scan.
    • Once complete, remember to re-engage your resident security before going online.
