our dell laptop suddenly has a weird virus or malware…. when you log on, it doesn't ask you to log into a user and when it pulls up to the main desktop screen, you can't actually go anywhere or open any programs. i started up in safe mode and tried to run spybot and malware bytes and it looked like it ran, but i didn't recognize the programs it was scanning, so i am not sure if it was a real scan. and i chose safe mode, no networking, and it still was on the internet also, it won't let mcafee turn on so all this leads me to believe we have something but i don't know how to fix it

**In any case where you happen to be busy or unable to give us a reply, we would be grateful if you keep us informed in advance and we will be more than happy to wait. Failure to do so we will have your thread closed in THREE(3) days. :)

So you're saying that when you try to boot into Windows, you cannot do anything in the desktop and all you see is a blank screen? What about start menus?

Can you open up browser?

—————————————————————————————————
No when we boot up in normal mode, it's the normal desktop, but we can't open anything…. can't right click on any programs either.
Let's see if this is blocked as well. Do it in normal mode first, if it doesn't run, run it under safe mode.

Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.
    • DDS.scr
    • DDS.com
    • DDS.pif
  • Disable any script blocking protection (How to Disable your Security Programs)
  • Double click DDS icon to run the tool (may take up to 3 minutes to run)
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • After a few moments, attach.txt will open in a second window.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————
  • Post the contents of the DDS.txt report in your next reply
  • Attach the Attach.txt report to your post by scroling down to the Attachments area and then clicking Browse. Browse to where you saved the file, and click Open and then click UPLOAD.
