I have DigitalPersona Fingerprint reading software on my Dell Studio 1535. After a recent check to see if I was infected it stopped working. I uninstalled the Authentec Suite (which includes the driver), the reinstalled Authentec and DigitialPersona. It was initially working, but in the process of upgrading DigitalPersona to the most recent version it stopped working. DigitalPersona thinks no fingerprint scanner is installed ("The fingerprint reader is not connected. Connect the reader.").
The Device Manager shows the Authentec device as one of the "Personal Authentication Devices" and says it's working properly.
How do I get DigitalPersona to talk to the Authentec device?
My experience with this software is limited, and not very successful, my best advice is to go back to the previous version, what I did find when trying to updating my own software, like you have, was exactly the same, it refused to see there was a device there, further research into it I was forced to conclude the hardware installed was not compatible with the newer software, which is why it didn't see anything, my best guess at this time is you have come across the same issue.
If you reply with the specific hardware installed on the PC, and the versions of software you have used\tried, I can see if I can confirm a similar situation to what I had, but my best guess ATM is it's a hardware limitation.
The version of DigitalPersona is 5.30.248a.
The hardware shows as AuthenTec Inc. AES2810 in the Device Manager. The driver is version 8.1.2.37.
I'm not sure exactly which versions I've been through. Version 3.1 is on the (re)install disk I got with my Dell.
Well DigitalPersona have never been very useful with help on such issues, and seem even worse since I last looked, it appears if you got a device that comes with their software from another source (eg part of a system like yours), then they don't want to know you, thats the feel you get anyway, it's only when you buy their specific products they would then be more forthcoming with help.
Anyway from what you have said, it appears to support my initial experience on my system, the software was simply not compatible with that specific hardware, and the fact you got the driver that works direct from the pc maker, who put this tech into their system, does not surprise me, it is common for shop bought systems to only allow updates to some hardware unless they have approved\accepted it, I have often seen video driver updates get blocked by system makers, so even the specific video card makers have a newer driver available, the system will block it's install and direct you to get the latest driver direct from the system maker, it's just a downside that they are not always (sometimes if ever) up with the very latest drivers, but main thing is you have it working again.
