Hello.
I re-formatted my machine with a fresh copy of Windows XP Pro and installed SP3 and all of the updates. I then installed SpywareGuard which was on the PC prior to re-formatting. Everytime the computer boots. SpywareGuard displays a window that says:
"MSCOMCTL.OCX" or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.
This error never occurred prior to reformatting so I am at a loss as to why it's appearing now.
My name is mschroe919. Does when booting give you a error #?
I would like for you to try this first and then let me know what happened. Note:
don't try any other fixes till I see what you get here.
Uninstall the files and reinstall them in the order given here.
At "Run" type the full path of the MSCOMCTL.OCX file. You will find it in your Windows\System32 file. The command should read like this without the quotes–
"C:\Windows\System32\regsvr32 -u MSCOMCTL.OCX"
Note the spaces and include them. Then click "OK."
After the file is uninstalled, similarly type in "run" (same path) -u SSA3D30.OCX. Again click "OK."
Then do the same thing again only this time reinstall both files in your registry. Use the same "run" format only omit the "-u." It should read like– C:\Windows\System32\regsvr32 SSA3D30.OCX. After clicking "OK," repeat the command again as C:\(path)regsvr32 MSCOMCTL.OCX.
You can open the "run" command by using the Windows key and the R key simultaneously.
Hi mschroe919.
At the run prompt and typed in this:
"C:\Windows\System32\regsvr32 -u MSCOMCTL.OCX"
It didn't find that file at all so there was nothing to uninstall. When I go to Windows explorer and look at the "C:\Windows\System32 directory there is no regsvr32 directoryt at all. It also couldn't find the C:\Windows\System32\regsvr32 SSA3D30.OCX file either. I do have a Windows XP installation disk, but that's it. It appears as if this directory was never installed.
Hi cmd4649
Try this out forget the other stuff I gave you.
Sometime certain Microsoft Libraries can become unregistered when installing and uninstalling software. One very common problem is the MSCOMCTL.OCX.
To correct the error, first search your drive for MSCOMCTL.OCX to see if you have it.
The file should be in your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
If not you can download it from here http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/mscomctl.zip
The file should extracted to your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 .
Once it is there click START–> RUN and type "REGSVR32 MSCOMCTL.OCX" (No quotes) in the box.
