Annoying popup ads like "Are You interested" "Cityville

hi….and thanks for your time. I've used Firefox for quite some time without many issues. A few days ago a friend posted on my wall on Facebook that I'd been hacked after I supposedly made an inappropriate post. Since then I've been getting these pop up style adds saying welcome to Cityville, Are You interested and a host of other ones I've no intention of signing up with. I will be on regular websites and all of a sudden I'll be redirected to one of those aforementioned sites. I use AVG and it's running clear. I have also ran Malawarebytes Anti-Malware. Some of these have found some things and even one trojan but I still seem to be affected by whatever it is. I do not seem to have the problem when logging into Facebook on Google Chrome. I ran Hijack this. I do get a pop up saying my system denies access to Host file and I'm supposed to edit file myself with Start Notepad etc but I can't seem to figure that step out.
