Hi,
I've set up a router and want to play some movies on my Sony KDS50- A200. The set is old enough that it doesn't have any USB ports. So how do I get the USB dongle plugged into the TV to play movies over the network. I'm getting confused with what is out there - from simple male USB to female HDMI patch-cords (for a couple of bucks on Amazon) to adapters that can cost up to a hundred bucks. I know there are micro USB to HDMI for phones - is it as simple as that? I'd like to find an all in one female standard Type A USB to a standard size male HDMI. Are they out there? Would a simple patchcord need and external power source? And could you point me in the right direction?
can you please explain what your hoping to do here..
ie:- send your tv picture from the tv to your pc or send your recordings from your pc to your tv via the router?
there is no way to connect the dongle to your tv and then have the tv connect to your network.
but you can send movies wirelessly from your pc to the tv using a video sender.
Thanks for the quick reply.
I want to take the picture from the PC to the TV. I'd like to hook the dongle up to the TV which only has HDMI. So - PC - Router - Dongle - TV. Why wouldn't I be able to (after figuring out what device to use) be able to have the dongle hooked up to the HDMI? I seem to be missing something here. If you can hook up your iphone or droid with a patchcord and play media, why not my PC to TV? Presently I have a long HDMI cord from the back of the PC to the TV and it works swimmingly. Now I want to be able to broadcast from the computer upstairs to another TV. Not possible?
your tv has no way to understand/send wireless signals through the dongle and is why it is impossible to do what you want by using any type of adaptor cable.(think of tv's that have a usb connection and can connect wireless to a router as having a tiny pc built into them, and yours doesn't.)
to go wireless your going to need to use a 3rd device that can understand/send wireless signals and then pass the picture to the tv.
so that means either using another pc(both pc's communicate through your router) or a hdmi video receiver box connected to the tv with the sender box connected to your pc.
sorry i can't think of any other way to do wireless what you want.
Gotcha. Thanks for the info. It just so happens Woot had a Roku on sale last week and I ordered one just because of the good deal. I think that'll be the ticket.
Thanks for your help.
