I am infected with 2011 Vista Antispyware. The only way I can access my browser is my ending the process gno.exe in the Task Manager. Subsequently, whenever I try to
access another program, it pops up again and closes the browser. I have attempted to use Spyware Doctor and PC Doctor but it's still here. Also, when I ran HiJack This, it initially told me that the system denied access to Hosts file, have no idea what that means. PLEASE if anyone can help me get rid of this would be much appreciated. My grandkids use this for school and I use it also. In my Users App Data folder where the gno.exe is, there is also ely.exe. Both were created today. Here is the log.

Hello and Welcome to WhatTheTech Forums

My name is BlackPegasus and I would be glad to help you with your computer problem.

Please read the following guidelines which will help to make cleaning your machine easier:

  • please follow all instructions in the order posted
  • please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear
  • all logs/reports, etc. must be posted in Notepad. Please ensure that word wrap is unchecked. In Notepad click Format, uncheck Word wrap if it is checked
  • if you don't understand something, please don't hesitate to ask for clarification before proceeding
  • the fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • please reply within 3 days. If you do not reply within this period I will post a reminder but topics with no reply in 4 days will be closed!

IMPORTANT:

Please DO NOT install/uninstall any programs unless asked to.
Please DO NOT run any scans other than those requested

===============

It would appear that you have more than one anti-virus solution on your machine. I can see Avira, Norton,Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus and PC Tools Security installed.
Having more than one anti-virus program on your machine, even if only one is running, can cause conflicts and slowdowns in the performance of the machine.
Before continuing on, please completely uninstall three of the programs. I might suggest that you keep Avira and remove the other three,
but that is a matter of preference. Whatever you decide be sure only one remains.

If you have any trouble uninstalling two of them please let me know. After you are done, if you are not prompted to do so, please reboot your machine. Please advise if the issues continue once you only have one anti-virus on the machine.

Norton Antivirus:
To completely remove Norton Antivirus, Download and Run the Norton Removal Tool for your version of Windows and the Symantec product you had..
http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/…EN&ln=en_US
Perform the DownLoad for your version of Windows and Norton Ghost (download to your desktop as it says).
On your desktop, click on Norton Removal Tool and follow the instructions.
(You don't really need to save the Install Key)
If you have ever had Norton AntiVirus or Norton 360 on the machine, repeat the process with the removal tool for that product.
