You have helped me in the past, and would appreciate your help again. I recently installed Business Management Software (Quickbooks Enterprise Solutions version 12.0) and did the required update. After a required reboot, all of my icons were blank, and I could not access any of the programs.
After I got up off the floor, I did system restore and got all of the programs back.
I need to install this program to work with clients, but am not sure whether this problem was a coincidence or related to the install.
I send a picture of my system properties attached.
Thanks
Since you have a good System Restore point to revert to, try it again. Do it in stages.
First install the program and make sure everything is okay.
If yes, reboot and again make sure all is well.
If yes install the update and see if all is well.
Reinstalled Quickbooks today with no problem. Updated program with no problem.
So……….I guess all is ok? Just wondering what made all my programs disappear on Friday?
Ahhhhh…..so just when you think everything is fine…I returned to my computer to check mail, and the programs are gone again! Had to restore to get system back to normal.
Guess I need some help?
What do you mean by "the programs are gone"? By gone/blank you meant they were there but had no identifying icon, all were a generic sort of white icon?
What did you see if you right clicked on one? What showed up in the list of choices (context menu)?
Sounds like the default action for .exe files is somehow being messed up. Give this a try after installing Quickbooks and the update again and after you see the problem. May want to download the registry fix first and have it available.
If you're curious, you can look at the registry keys contained in the Default_EXE.reg file and compare them to the same data in the registry by using regedit from a Run window or Command Prompt.
It would also be a good idea to contact Intuit and let them know the problem you are having and how you fix it.
Generic white icon is correct. The same when i hit windows button to display icons. Right clicking and checking properties showed nothing.
Downloaded the Restore Default Windows 7 File Extension Type Associations you linked to, but not sure how to proceed.
