Hi to All,

I posted before in,
‘What the Tech > Spyware / Malware / Virus Removal > Virus, Spyware & Malware Removal’ section, with name of the thread ‘Beeping Malware’.

I have been advised to post my problem in this section.

My machine going very slow and not responding , sometimes it takes 1 or 2 hours, and when combining some buttons, such as Crtl, Alt, or the SHIFT key, it produce beeping sounds.
Also, the windows on the task bar at the bottom keep changing location always.
And the mouse behaves funny. I point somewhere and I find it at different spot.

When I ran the Hijack This program it gives an error “ For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file”

How does it behave if you boot to Safe Mode with Networking? If better then something is starting at boot that is causing the problem.

Advanced startup options - XP
Advanced startup options - Vista
Advanced startup options - Windows 7

Use msconfig to determine what is causing the problem

These are good tutorials on using msconfig in XP, Vista or Windows 7:
How to use msconfig in Windows XP
How to use msconfig in Windows Vista
How to use msconfig in Windows 7

Click on Start then Run, type msconfig and press Enter.
Click on the Startup tab, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Reboot and see if it runs better.
If yes then use msconfig to enable several items at a time till you find the culprit.

If no, start msconfig and click on the Services tab.
Check the Hide All Microsoft Services box, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Again, do a regular boot, see if it runs normal.
If yes then use msconfig to enable services till you find the culprit.

Once you've found the culprit, uninstall it or find out how to eliminate it from your system. Simply disabling it in msconfig is a temporary fix at best.
Enable everything else you disabled.
I rebooted in Safe mode with Networking. And I tried to disable everything at Startup then at Services as instructed but the beeping is still going.
What entries are suspicious? That's a lot of data to crawl through looking for stuff. When you boot to Safe Mode with Networking, the computer still runs very slow or does it run better but still beeps?
Some of the entries are about: “SearchProtocolHost.exe” in “C:\……\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\index.dat” for “Protect cached files from password and email address stealers” I am saying it is suspicious because today the log shows that from 2:52 PM till 4:41 PM, (1:49 minutes) there were 360 entries in this short period of time. (Putting the text without choosing word rap option it can be read better) The machine was faster but the beeping continues. With regards,
Okay, so it sounds like there are at least two different problems. Disabling everything allowed the machine to run faster. Work on that first. Disable everything to verify computer runs better/normal.Then start enabling Startup then Service items a few at a time until you identify the one that is causing the slowdown. Uninstall then reinstall with latest version, replace with another application or leave it uninstalled if you don't need it. For the beeping, are you saying this only happens when you press key combinations, like Crtl, Alt, or Shift? Do you have any keyboard remapping programs like AutoHotKey or SharpKey?
