On another problem, I've very recently run the gamut of Hijack, OTL Combi___, etc. That did seem to solve a problem of recurrent crashes. What was going on before that, with regard to re-boots still pertains. No matter how I try to re-start, I go through "Logging Off" and then "Shutting Down" freezes. I must then manually stop and re-start.
At first I thought the freeze was simply a very slow shutdown, yet I've waited over an hour and it still remains at "Shutting Down". That sure looks like a freeze.
Here's a current HiJack file:
Your response leaves me bewildered. According to the instructions I saw o n opening a new topic, I was supposed to choose one of three tools (I chose HiJackthis) and enter the log along with a statement of my problem. The link to which you directed brings no response beyond the "wait" hourglass symbol.
I most certainly appreciate the effort you put into this venture, and hope for some information beyond notice that you have removed my log.
to try and fix your problem tho i'd think you'd need to scan your system files and see if any are corrupted and replace them or do a system repair install.
sorry for the vague instructions but i'm not used to using a windows operating system so can't remember the best way to problem solve your issue at the moment, and have to go out so haven't the time to look into it more.
i'd suggest you get the all clear from our malware experts first too so we know there's no virus problem.
In pursuing this problem which is still unsolved, I reviewed my starting programs and eliminated those I considered not immediately necessary to be loaded immediately. That didn't help.
During my last adventure in this forum. a great number of changes were made to my system as the result of programs which were run to "cleanse" possible infections. One result has been that since than, when I re-boot, i"m asked to authenticate my Windows Vista program. I'm given the choice of doing so then or later. I must now choose "later" since I have no disc to authenticate. When I then re-boot, the following appears in the lower right corner of my screen: "Windows Vista ™, Build 62, This copy of Windows is not genuine". The system then works, but appears unstable.
I purchased this computer about three years ago on the internet from an established dealer as a refurbished unit with a genuine Widows Vista 32 operating system. I was never asked for an authentication until the recent cleaning.
I don't believe the re-booting freeze is related to the lack of an authenticated OD, since that problem existed before the "cleaning".
I'm not sure I'm in the right part of "WhattheTech?", but any suggestions would be appreciated.
