Hi Paul,
I need to ask you about this program ==> ARO 2011 Have you ever used this program to clean your registry? Registry cleaners are not recommended for use here as sometimes they will unintentionally remove a required entry. This is a possibility that this may be effecting your video but I cannot be for sure.
I need to ask you about this program ==> ARO 2011 Have you ever used this program to clean your registry? Registry cleaners are not recommended for use here as sometimes they will unintentionally remove a required entry. This is a possibility that this may be effecting your video but I cannot be for sure.
Paul2010
Hi Jeff,
I did use it once; partially. I removed it.
Should I reinstall my video drivers?
Thank you,
Paul
jeffce
That may be a good idea. Are you able to do that on your own or do you think you will need assistance? If you need help just let me know. That might just fix you up with newly installed drivers. I am not seeing any malware in your logs any longer.Should I reinstall my video drivers?
Paul2010
Jeff,
You have been a huge help…
Please be so kind to answer a few followup questions:
Do you use a malware program besides an antivirus program like norton?
If so, which one?
Is there simple scans that can be done to check for malware? Spybot and Norton see limited in their defens.
Would this be a good time to clone my drive and keep as a reinstall backup in case I get infected again?
I have a number of local and network harddrives with data from the mid 80's. Is there an effective way to scan them for hidden malware?
Why do you do this service? It is very generous…
Thank you so much…
Paul

Hi Paul,
Lets go through this one at a time.

To begin with did you get your drivers reinstalled and did it help?

IT APPEARS THAT YOUR LOGS ARE NOW CLEAN
SO LETS DO A COUPLE OF THINGS TO WRAP THIS UP!!
This infection appears to have been cleaned, but I can not give you any absolute guarantees. As a precaution, I would go ahead and change all of your passwords as this is especially important after an infection.

The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:
Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following text into the Run box as shown and click OK.
(Note: There is a space between the ..X and the /U that needs to be there.)

Any of the logs that you created for use in the forums or remaining tools that have not yet been removed can be deleted so they aren't cluttering up your desktop.
Here are some tips to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future:
1. Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
4. Firewall
Using a third-party firewall will allow you to give/deny access for applications that want to go online. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. A tutorial on firewalls can be found here. **There are firewalls listed in this tutorial that could be downloaded and used but I would personally only recommend using one of the following two below:
Online Armor Free
Agnitum Outpost Firewall Free
5. Make sure you keep your Windows OS current. Windows XP users can visit Windows update regularly to download and install any critical updates and service packs. Windows Vista/7 users can open the Start menu > All Programs > Windows Update > Check for Updates (in left hand task pane) to update these systems. Without these you are leaving the back door open.
6. Consider a custom hosts file such as MVPS HOSTS. This custom hosts file effectively blocks a wide range of unwanted ads, banners, 3rd party Cookies, 3rd party page counters, web bugs, and many hijackers. For information on how to download and install, please read this tutorial by WinHelp2002
Note: Be sure to follow the instructions to disable the DNS Client service before installing a custom hosts file.
7. WOT (Web of Trust) As "Googling" is such an integral part of internet life, this free browser add on warns you about risky websites that try to scam visitors, deliver malware or send spam. It is especially helpful when browsing or searching in unfamiliar territory. WOT's color-coded icons show you ratings for 21 million websites, helping you avoid the dangerous sites. WOT has an add-on available for Firefox, Internet Explorer as well as Google Chrome.
8.Finally, I strongly recommend that you read TonyKlein's good advice So how did I get infected in the first place?
Please reply to this thread once more if you are satisfied so that we can mark the problem as resolved.

What I have found best to use for my system has been Microsoft Security Essentials (antivirus), Online Armor (firewall) and Malwarebytes (antimalware). Malwarebytes which we have just recently downloaded onto your system is a very good malware program. The free version that you downloaded is very good; however, you have to do the updates and scans on your own. If you were to purchase the paid version it does it for you. Personally I use the free version.Do you use a malware program besides an antivirus program like norton?

Yes it would BUT wait after my last set of instructions that I will give below. After we cleanup the tools that we have used I would go ahead and backup everything.Would this be a good time to clone my drive and keep as a reinstall backup in case I get infected again?

You can't go wrong with using Malwarebytes and an antivirus scan for these as well.I have a number of local and network harddrives with data from the mid 80's. Is there an effective way to scan them for hidden malware?

Well I do this to give back. I was helped about a year ago now at another site and I asked how to learn how to do this and I was graciously accepted to the school here. It took almost a year to complete but it has been well worth it that I can now help others the way that I was helped. Why do you do this service? It is very generous…

Hi Jeff,
I use a Colorgraphic Video Card Driver 80510R3. This is a quad card. I found the drivers stored on my harddrive as a backup.
I think I need to uninstall the driver an then reinstall. Is this correct? Can I point to the backup driver set on my c: drive to reinstall? (unsure with the Device Manager Instructions.
I ran combofix ininstall as suggested.
Thank you for all your help and suggestions. very musch appreciated.

Hi Paul,
It would be best if you are able to use the disk that should have come with the system when you got it to reinstall the driver. I am looking for one that you can download online as well if you are not able to find the disk.
Paul2010
Hi Jeff,
I just uninstalled one monitor to see if I could install it again. I rebooted, the os saw the new hardware and I pointed to the folder that I stored the xentera gt colorgraphic.net card drivers in and no go…
Am I skipping a step here? It gives me a chice of pointing to the harddrive but is unsuccessfuland wants a disk.
Any ideas?
Thank you,
Paul

Hi Paul,
I have been looking around and I don't want to steer you in the wrong direction. You may be better served starting a topic in the General Hardware forums here and the Tech Team can better help you than I can with this. When you do post there please be sure to copy/paste the link to this topic so that they can see what we have done. They will have much better information on this than I could provide. In regards to malware, your logs seem to be clean so that has been taken care of though.
