Hi Guys,
My browser seems to redirect thru a few sites until it loads to my home page. I seem to have other browser instability also; such as intermittent trouble loading sites, etc…
Please see my log below.
Any suggestions?
Thank you, :)
Paul

Hi and Welcome!! :) My name is Jeff. I would be more than happy to take a look at your malware results logs and help you with solving any malware problems you might have. Logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and know that I am working hard to get you a clean and functional system back in your hands. I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
IMPORTANT NOTE : Please do not delete, download or install anything unless instructed to do so.
DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix or HijackThis fixes without supervision. Doing so could make your system inoperable and could require a full reinstall of your Operating System and losing all your programs and data.

Having said that….Let's get going!!

    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in your reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<— ROOKIT" entries
.

Hi Paul (I hope it is ok to call you that),

Print out these instructions as we may need to close every window that is open later in the fix.

It is possible that the infection you are trying to remove will not allow you to download files on the infected computer. If this is the case, then you will need to download the files requested in this guide on another computer and then transfer them to the infected computer. You can transfer the files via a CD/DVD, external drive, or USB flash drive.

Do not reboot your computer after running rkill as the malware programs will start again.

Please download and run the following tool to help allow other programs to run. (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com)
There are 5 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.
Vista and Win7 users need to right click and choose Run as Admin
You only need to get one of them to run, not all of them.
  • rkill.exe
  • rkill.com
  • rkill.scr
  • WiNlOgOn.exe
  • uSeRiNiT.exe

Do not reboot your computer after running rkill as the malware programs will start again.
———-

Lets try this with GMER.

  • Go ahead and use the instructions that I posted before but before you save the file rename it as Vageta.com
  • Once you get it downloaded try to run it then.
  • If there is a log created post that into the next reply.

If you still have problems with that let me know.
———

Please download aswMBR to your desktop.

  • Double click the aswMBR icon to run it.
  • Click the Scan button to start scan.
  • When it finishes, press the save log button, save the logfile to your desktop and post its contents in your next reply.

Click the image to enlarge it
———-

In your next reply please post the logs created by GMER and aswMBR. Let me know if you had problems running or downloading any of the programs. :)
Hi Jeff, I ran rkill successfully. I then ran Gmer again through the night. When I woke it was finished but my mouse was frozen and there were black squares in my display. So I had to reboot. I am planning on running rkill and gmer again. Is this ok? Thank you, Paul
Hi Paul, How about just go ahead and run aswMBR.exe per the instructions I gave in the previous post. When the log is produced please post that into your next reply. :)
Hi Jeff, I ran GMER and aswMBR. aswMBR is directly below and I have uploaded Gmer.txt. I hope this helps and look forward to your next suggestions. Hi Paul,

Great job getting those programs ran. :)
———-

Please do the following:

Hold down the Windows key and press R to open a run box
type the following text into the run box

appwiz.cpl

This will open your Programs And Features. A list of installed programs will populate

Remove the following programs:

Ask Toolbar
Conduit Engine
Productivity Toolbar
Viewpoint Media Player

———-

Please read through these instructions to familarize yourself with what to expect when this tool runs

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : How to Disable your Security Programs
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

[external image: Posted Image]

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

In your next reply please post the log created by ComboFix. :)
Hi Jeff,

I removed all programs listed above except "Ask Toolbar" which I could not locate.

I ran ComboFixto until it finished and produced the log listed below.

Thank you. Do you have other steps?

Sincerely,

Paul :)

Hi Paul,

You are doing great! :) Let's keep going.
———-

  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:

    DDS::
    Trusted Zone: intuit.com\ttlc
    Trusted Zone: turbotax.com

    Folder::
    c:\program files\Ask.com

    Regnull::
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Microsoft\Environment*]

  • Save this as CFScript.txt and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop.

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.
CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
———-

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan as shown below.

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.

The log can also be found here:
C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt

ESET Online Scanner
I'd like us to scan your machine with ESET Online Scan

Note: It is recommended to disable on-board anti-virus program and anti-spyware programs while performing scans so there are no conflicts and it will speed up scan time.
Please don't go surfing while your resident protection is disabled!
Once the scan is finished remember to re-enable your anti-virus along with your anti-spyware programs.

  • Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
    ESET OnlineScan
  • Click the [external image: Posted Image] button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    • Click on [external image: Posted Image] to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on the [external image: Posted Image] icon on your desktop.
  • Check [external image: Posted Image]
  • Click the Start button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Check [external image: Posted Image]
  • Make sure that the option "Remove found threats" is Unchecked
  • Push the Start button.
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin
scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, push [external image: Posted Image]
  • Push [external image: Posted Image], and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as
ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Push the Back button.
  • Push Finish

———-

In your next reply please post the logs created by ComboFix, Malwarebytes and ESET Online Scanner. Also let me know how your system is running now. :)
Hi Jeff,

I ran all scans requested; ComboFix, Malwarebytes and ESET Online Scanner….

They are below.

ESETScan located a virus in my Video Card which might explain why my screen resolution is of poor quality.

What next?

Big thank you Jeff!!! :)

Best,

Paul

C:\Documents and Settings\Paul Rusnock\My Documents\My Docs Paul\Files Business\Downloaded Program Updates\sdsetup.exe probably a variant of Win32/Spy.Agent.LSLDWCL trojan
C:\Documents and Settings\Paul Rusnock\My Documents\My Docs Paul\Files Business\Downloaded Program Updates\Monitors & Video Cards\avi2video_install.exe Win32/Adware.MarketScore.A application
Hi Paul,

Things are looking better. Stick with me. We are almost done.
  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:

    File::
    C:\Documents and Settings\Paul Rusnock\My Documents\My Docs Paul\Files Business\Downloaded Program Updates\sdsetup.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\Paul Rusnock\My Documents\My Docs Paul\Files Business\Downloaded Program Updates\Monitors & Video Cards\avi2video_install.exe

———-

Once this scan has completed, post the newly created log and let me know how your system is running. :)
Hi Jeff,

Thank you for all your help.

Here is the log below.

Best,

Paul

Hi Paul,

You have an older version of Adobe Reader. You can download the current version HERE

You may want to consider Foxit Reader instead. It may be a bit lighter on resources.

Visit their support forum
Foxit Forum

In either case you should uninstall Adobe Reader 9.4.6 first. Be sure to move any PDF documents to another folder first though.
———-

Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own
folder
  • Run JavaRa.exe (double-click for XP/right-click and Run as Administrator for Vista), pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then
    click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.
  • Open JavaRa.exe (double-click for XP/right-click and Run as Administrator for Vista) again and select Search For Updates.
  • Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.
———-

Now, once you get that completed, run DDS once again and post both of the newly created logs into your next reply.
How is your system running now?? :)
