Good afternoon,

I am trying to have my log scanned for possible remote access. My computer is extremely slow. In addition to the computer being slow; when it is left on, i return and there are several programs opened on the desktop and sometimes the internet is up. I am not sure if someone has remote access to my computer or if this is virus activity. I am posting my log below. Thank you for any assistance you can provide. :D

Hi giftedhands,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. Logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

I'd like to see a deeper scan:

Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.
    • DDS.scr
    • DDS.pif
  • Disable any script blocking protection (How to Disable your Security Programs)
  • Double click DDS icon to run the tool (may take up to 3 minutes to run)
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • After a few moments, attach.txt will open in a second window.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————
  • Post the contents of the DDS.txt report in your next reply
  • Attach the Attach.txt report to your post by scroling down to the Attachments area and then clicking Browse. Browse to where you saved the file, and click Open and the click UPLOAD.
Hi TomK, Thank you for assisting with my computer issues. FYI, if it takes me some time to respond its because my daughter is helping me and I have to wait until she can come to respond to your posts :pullhair: . I am pasting the DDS log and attaching the attach.txt file now. . giftedhands,

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link –> http://forums.whatthetech.com/How_Disable_…ams_t96260.html

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
3. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
4. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
5. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
Hi TomK,

I am attaching the log from combofix.

Thank you,

giftedhands,

I'm not seeing the cause of your "unusual activity" but there is a couple things to deal with.

First… you have an orphaned driver,

  • Hold windows key , then press R to bring up the runbox.
  • Type notepad.exe in the Run Box.
Copy and Paste everything from the Quote box into Notepad:

    @Echo off
    sc stop "Lbd"
    sc delete "Lbd"
    del delete.bat

  • Save the file to your DESKTOP as "delete.bat". Make sure to save it with the quotes. Once saved, the icon to click should look like this on your desktop:[external image: Posted Image]
  • Double click delete.bat.

Then…

Your Java is out of date and you have other old versions still on your computer, those old versions are now a security vulnerability:

Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
  • Run JavaRa.exe, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.
  • Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
  • Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer - Version 6 update 26

And finally… you have multiple "optimizer" type programs running. Personally, I don't recommend any of them.. but if you are going to use them, don't run more than one. I see SpeedItUpEX, PerfectSpeed, and Advanced System Optimizer 3. Some of these programs have a "registry fixer" component. Never use it. Ever. It is extremely unlikely that using it will do your computer any good… and there is a high probability that you could cause harm. Sometimes irreparable. Anyhow… please uninstall any extra programs so that you have no more than one of these type of programs (preferably none).

After you've done all of that… please advise me as to any current symptoms you are noticing.
Hi TomK, I am in the process of completing the steps, but I wanted to respond so that my topic is not closed. Thank you,
Hi TomK, I have completed all the steps in your last post. As of now I haven't seen anything unusual and my computer is much faster than it was previously, I have to wait until tomorrow morning to see if the internet is up and the search window is opened with files listed. I will re-post tomorrow. Also do you recommend I shut the computer down each day? Thank you so much for your assistance, you've have been a great help! :D
giftedhands,

Personally, I rarely shut my computer off. Sometimes months go by without shutting down. I don't believe I can give you a "good" recommendation as to what you should do, but my feelings on the matter are that the most likely time for something to fail is when it is starting up. It's like a light bulb. There are incandescent bulbs around that have been burning for decades. But that is the key. They are never shut down. Others will tell you that you should always shut down when you're not using it or you'll cause the polar icecaps to melt and destroy the habitat of the polar bear. It's really your call.

When you get a chance… let's get an online scan.

ESET Online Scanner:

Note: You can use either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox for this scan. You will however need to disable your current installed Anti-Virus, how to do so can be read here.

Vista users: You will need to to right-click on the either the IE or FF icon in the Start Menu or Quick Launch Bar on the Taskbar and select Run as Administrator from the context menu.

  • Please go here then click on: [external image: Posted Image]

Note: If using Mozilla Firefox you will need to download esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe when prompted then double click on it to install.
All of the below instructions are compatible with either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox.

  • Select the option YES, I accept the Terms of Use then click on: [external image: Posted Image]
  • When prompted allow the Add-On/Active X to install.
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is NOT checked, and the option Scan archives is checked.
  • Now click on Advanced Settings and select the following:
    • Scan for potentially unwanted applications
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth Technology
  • Now click on: [external image: Posted Image]
  • The virus signature database… will begin to download. Be patient this make take some time depending on the speed of your Internet Connection.
  • When completed the Online Scan will begin automatically.
  • Do not touch either the Mouse or keyboard during the scan otherwise it may stall.
  • When completed select Uninstall application on close if you so wish, make sure you copy the logfile first!
  • Now click on: [external image: Posted Image]
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt.
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic.

Note: Do not forget to re-enable your Anti-Virus application after running the above scan!
